Hi Everyone, I'm going to view an Evora on Wednesday and I'm wondering if I could have the benefit of your experience. The car is a normally aspirated 2+2 manual first registered in May of 2010. It has had three owners, done 61,000 miles, has a full service history and had the clutch replaced 10,000 miles ago. It has all 3 option packs fitted. It is said to be in excellent condition but with some 'age related marks'. It has a full mot. The sale is private so I won't get the benefit of any warranty or comeback. What I'm wondering is what sort of price should I pay for the car and is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? Many thanks for your help, Dave

It's in Guisborough in NE England. Here's the link to the ad:

Just incase that doesn't work the reg number is AU 10 BHN

Thanks,

Dave

I sold my 2010 car with all three packs and 75k miles in December for £23,500. I needed a quick sale, reckon I could have got another £1k

Mine had full service history, but clutch was done at 34k miles. All other niggles were sorted. Car had barge boards and tubular.

Check headlights carefully for peeling lacquer and all lights for failed led elements. Knocking from the front means new arb bushes etc. Check emergency boot release works, check locks work smoothly, check A pillar trims are secure, check tfim panel above tailgate is not cracked and doesnt catch on tailgate, check boot struts hold tailgate, check winfows drop when door is opened and go back up when closed

Other stuff is just usual used car checks

The car may be a 2010 registered, but I'd say it was a launch edition. The badge on the dash and the chrome door handles are indications it is a LE. The first Alpine head unit also indicates it is pre MY11 changes, that we're back end of 2010.

That said, it doesn't really matter so long as the niggles have been sorted.

Check the gear change. Also visible in photos that the passenger airbag clips have broken, so this will need sorting.

For a private sale it is IMHO optimistically priced for the mileage. I'd say about £26k would be fair, assuming no other issues and FSH (see below).

Check the service history, it should have been annual or 10k and there are sizeable gaps in the stated history - also 18 months since the last service, which should have been a big one inc spark plugs. Might be worth a call to Hofmanns if they did the clutch.

Agree
A good deal at 25k

My car was not launch edition but did have the Evora badge on the dashboard. But chrome door handles are likely to mean an early car.

Check stiching at centre of dash near the screen viewed from outside the car. It splits and can't be easily repaired.

Air bag clips break because the cover warps, dash out and a new cover to fix it upwards of £500 at a dealer.

If it is an LE then the gear cables are better than the slightly later cars . Better if it has a C/ R box . £25k seems fair if all the warranty work has been done .

If its LE or even a 2010 car its unlikely to be a CR box. Didn't CR boxes come out with the S?

Standard box isn't really an issue IMO, I had it on my n/a and most of the time you just didn't notice any oversize ratio gap. On the plus side it also showed average mpg in the low 30's and on a 2hr motorway trip at 70mph on cruise I got 41mpg!

My S IPS is not so good...........

I had a C/R box on my LE ., however the mpg was not as good as the regular box . Perhaps 3 or 4 mpg ?

First of all thanks everyone for your help so far. I have now been to see the car in question and have noted the following points. Due to extensive stone chipping the front spoiler/bumper needs respraying. Possibly also the front clam top. The tailgate struts struggle to hold it open. The clips holding the passenger airbag cover are broken. The boot carpet was damp on the nearside. There was a convoluted hose on the offside of the engine bay which didn't seem to be attached to anything. A couple of services have been missed and it's now due a service. Mot is due in a couple of months. Gearcables have not been upgraded and are a little obstructive when cold. In view of all this I'm thinking of offering the vendor £22,000. What do you think? Am I being unduly optimistic hoping to get it for this and if so what should I offer. Thanks again for your help, Dave

If you offered me £22k on a car that I had listed at £27.5k, I would consider that a 'lowball' and that would be the end of any discussions.

This car recently sold for it's asking price: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...

99k miles, £24k (and still plenty of work that needed doing).

Plenty. A couple of thousand at least, IIRC. My mate contacted the seller about the car before it was sold but I can't remember the specifics, I'm afraid.

Really. It looked ok in the ad. Perhaps you are right though - I may be a bit low on price. What would you think would be fair?

There is £1k of service due. After the first 2 years the service schedule has been allowed to slip. You have £500 of bumper respray required, if the clam needs doing as well then that will cost more.

Dash out to fix the airbag clips, this is several hours labour, unless doing yourself. Having spent £2k plus, you would be left with a car with a relatively high mileage (against other Evoras) and holes in the service history, which is very unusual in this market and will affect resale.

My 60plate n/a was sold in October by the main dealer for low £30s (was up for 32k) had 44k on it, all 3 packs new clutch, every one of the desirable upgrades and was absolutely mint with every service schedule hit and a stack of bills for "unnecessaries".

So, I have some sympathy for the kind of offer you are talking and if I were buying I be looking at a better car and paying the extra.

In my opinion, and it's only that, because of the deficient SH, it is a £25/£26k car, absolute tops, the service is overdue and therefore an immediate expense that gets deducted in full. Bumper you will get benefit of a fresh respray, but if clam needed as well it has to be £500 reduction. Do dash yourself, but worth a couple hundred for parts and grief.

Absolute tops £24k, but personally there is enough there to concern me that I'd simply pass. But that is just my opinion.

Agree with the above, enough work to do that you found. Why anyone skips or misses services I will never know. The car may have been maintained on a low budget so what other issues may materialise? I would not want to buy a car with these issues knowing I have to MOT and service it straight away. If I were inclined to buy based on low price I would get a pre purchase inspection for peace of mind.

I agree with the two posts above

Wait for a high miler in better condition or spend a bit more.

For me: 23k tops as the lack of service history / clutch replacement will make it a very hard sell.
Most people paying post 25k want a dealer 'peace of mind' so when you want to sell it you want minimal impact.
I am not sure what a 1k service is? I just had the most major service done for about 650 which includes a change of all the plugs.
