Searching for speficic term (TV and Radio), brought up the below...

It's ordered in Date and Descending...

For instance you can see the date and time of the last update on the Coranation Street Thread. But that thread in reality is very active and updated nearly every day. Someting is not right...

The PH search function has always been famously st; it's a feature of the product, much like the zero sts given about every other aspect of managing the forums by Haymarket.

"TV and radio" isn't a great search term to use on any forum search.

Forum searches are generally pretty limited in nature...they just "are", forums don't have the resources of Google behind them and are generally just using things like MySQL Fulltext for searching, which has limitations.

Generally anything three letters and under isn't going to work properly, so TV is out. 'and' is not only three letters but is such a common word as to be meaningless.

You might be better searching for
television radio
I just got much more meaningful results using that.

Search for 'coronation street official', you still get the same result ... which suggests the last post in the thread was ages ago but that isn't the case.

I might be missing something obvious, but when searching the forum is there any way I can go directly to the post/page which contains the keyword I want? At the moment I only seem to be able to click on a link to a thread where the keyword has appeared, and this could be hundreds of pages long!

Hi surveyor,

Thanks for you feedback. We understand the limitations of the Search functionality and are hoping to improve this in the future.

In the meantime, zarjaz1991 has a good suggestion on how to improve your results from using Search in his comment below.

Thanks,
Dom

It's not a limitation. It's broken - delivering incorrect results.

And Zarjaz well intentioned post was also meaningless - because the results that the Search engine deliverare incorrect.

It's not at all obvious, but to do that you click on the down arrow/chevron thing between the number of replies and the last post; this opens up a drop-down thing which offers you the chance to go straight to however many posts contain your key word.

The replies 'fraction' tells you how many of the posts in the thread contain the word.

Click on the '+There are X more posts that match your search' bar to see all of them.

The lucene family cost nothing to implement. There's no excuse for rolling your own search engine in this day and age.

The index looks to be broken. I'd imagine it either wants rebuilding, or there's a problem populating it. Either way, as the OP says, it ain't right.
