Does anyone use a steering lock
Discussion
If so why?
Which one do you have?
Do you think its a good deterant?
I have a stoplock pro which the bulkhead/lock fills most of the bottom right segment of my steering wheel as i put it on with the bar pointing up rather than down.
People tell me thiefs will just cut the wheel, im not saying its not possible but surely it will be tricky as the bit you could actually cut is very close to the centre of the wheel, if it was on the other way round then they probably could quite easily.

Me too, have you seen the stoplock pro, if so do you think it will be a good detterant as its a lot easier to use than a disklok, if i place the bulkhead in the small right section of the wheel?
Stoplock pro is just a case of cutting the wheel and removing. Not a lot of work given an angle grinder. Disklok will take a little bit longer depending on attack method, reckon I could have one off within a few minutes without damaging the vehicle.Disklok.
I use them on my TVR, Saab 900, and my old e36 BMW cab if I park somewhere dodgy. The former 2 are 80s cars and you could probably steal them with a wooden chip fork, so a disklok and a decent immobiliser hopefully keep them safer (or at least make them less attractive to thieves). The e36 has a built in immobiliser but it's an extra visual deterrent.
the e46 has built in factory stuff, but if I have to park anywhere dodgy I will probably use one.

Does anyone think this could take a bit of beating as its hard to cut the wheel given the limited space? Click on it to zoom it its clearerI think the point of these things is not that it makes it particularly hard to steal your car, but that it makes it slightly harder to steal your car than someone else's.

I can't see why it'd be difficult to cut the wheel either side of the lock with an angle grinder?

Do thiefs walk around with angle grinders and get them out on peoples drives etc? Not saying they wouldent if it was parked down an alley but surely to use one of them outside your house is unlikely?I think the point of these things is not that it makes it particularly hard to steal your car, but that it makes it slightly harder to steal your car than someone else's.

I'm not sure what else they'd use to cut a steering wheel? I don't think a set of bolt cutters would open wide enough? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
