Hi all, can anyone help please? My 996 has suffered with this problem for a couple of years now and it's not getting any better. When I start it from cold it idles evenly, no problem there. However when I start driving down the road, 30mph limit where the engine's not under much load, the revs fluctuate by around 50 rpm, enough to hear and feel. When you place the engine under more load it goes away but does return until the engine is fully warmed up. I videoed it the other day and I will try to upload, you can see the revs hunting until I start to speed up..

Any ideas? I've replaced the maf and the title control, it has a cable throttle.

Thank you.

Youtube video...

It carries on doing it if I drive gently, until it's warmed up. You only see it for a few seconds here because I only just thought to record it!

That's not the engine, that's the gearbox - looks like it's hunting between torque convertor lockup on and off.

I'd start with a fluid and filter change first, as this has helped a lot of people in the past.

bgunn, that sounds promising, it does feel like it wants to change gear but doesn't and hunts instead. I had a gearbox oil and filter change about 18 months ago, the indy who did it said that it was overdue by the look of the oil. I can't remember if it had this issue before then but it definitely has it now. Worth another change d'you think?

Thank you.
