Enabling cookies doesn't work with Chrome, apparently I have 22 cookies from Pistonheads on my PC but I'm getting exactly the same problem that these other folks are having.

Splash screen when first entering the site & not signed in, accept the splash screen, click on "sign in" and it's done without entering any more detail. It's not clearing browsing data when I leave and Pistonheads is the only forum I use that shows the problem, all the others are ok.

edit to add..... it might just be a Chome/PH problem, just tried Firefox and there's no splash screen and I've stayed signed in. If there's something peculiar that's needed with Chrome (cookies are enabled and present) then I'd welcome any clues.

All I can add is that I use Chrome desktop to browse PH and don't have any of these login issues. If I clear my cookies I obviously have to login again but so long as I select the 'remember me' box it never asks me to login until I clear my cookies again.

chrome://settings/content/cookies

Check the top slider is set to 'on'.

Firefox 68.0.2 is behaving strangely, too...

It is remembering my login, but not signing me in - if I click login it takes me straight in, and all is fine until I close Firefox, and have to click sign in again when I reopen it later.

Very strange!

Do you have 'keep local data only until I quit my tab/browser' set to 'on' ? That is the cause of that happening.

Nope, it works properly on a shedload of other sites - it was fine here until a couple of weeks ago.

It seems odd that clicking "sign in" doesn't take me to the sign in screen, but just signs me straight in...

Computers, don't you just love 'em?

I'm suffering the same in Chrome (Version 76.0.3809.100 (Official Build) (64-bit) on OSX Mojave 10.14.6). Have deleted cookies, disabled ad blocker, signed in, out and in again, but every time I close the tab and go back to PH it thinks I'm not signed in. Clicking the sign in button immediately signs me in without asking for username/password so it sort of half knows who I am, but it just won't stick.
The same happens in Chrome (Version 76.0.3809.132 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 10. Going to try a different browser at some point and see if that changes things.

Why Not?

I posted in website feedback, and I thought there might have been some feedback from Haymarket by know.

I am quite prepared to accept that I don't understand how the system works. So? How does it work?

I've been here about a 1/4 of the time you have but yet quickly noticed from other posts in this section that the tech department is seemingly nonexistent so I'm surprised that this has slipped by you unnoticed. wink

Also, given that other users are using the same browser and OS yet have no such issues remaining logged in points to it being a local issue. If it was an issue at PH end then one would expect everyone on identical platforms to be experiencing the issue and this is not the case.

Bullst, this place isn't wired up that reliably!

Here's one alternative explanation. Pistonheads stores cookies against www.pistonheads.com and pistonheads.com separately.

Open a new window and navigate to http://pistonheads.com/gassing and watch as you're redirected to https but without the www. Try the same at http://pistonheads.com/gassing/mytopics.asp and you'll be redirected to www.

This can result in a user being logged out on naked pistonheads.com links but logged in as soon as they click something that navigates them to www.

If that's all it is then it's a literally a 5 second fix for everyone to amend their bookmark to the correct address and ensure it matches across all their devices.

none of my browsers ever remember my username, always have to manually type that!

Chrome on ChromeOS, Firefox/Vivaldi/Chrome/Opera or Ubuntu and Firefox on Android.

Hi everyone - sorry for the delay in getting this answered for you.

I've asked the tech team for advice and also sent over 768's workaround.

Will come back to you shortly!

Spot on! For whatever reason our non-www to www redirect isn't working... I'm working on a fix right now... thanks for the awesome feedback btw!

Haymarket no more. Cargurus is now the owner.
