Was it during the nightly shut down for maintenance? Mine never seems to log off if I leave it running in the background.

Under Ghostzilla it's once or twice a day, which is a bit of a pain.

Under Firefox and IE it is indeed ages.

Nope: I get logged off at least twice a day (XP/IE6).

I've not yet managed to pin down exactly when: would it be useful for me to try & keep a log?

XP/IE6 too but usually only once a day and as far as I've figgered it, it's when Ted or one of his little helpers runs the daily website update.
It's not a problem for me to log on again though.

I seem to be logged off whenever the daily advert in the new browser window is delivered - for example the RAC ad today (or maybe the advert is delivered as a consequence of me being logged off - who knows!).

You get that advert because you're not logged on. Members don't get popunders.

Can't explain why you in particular are getting logged off on a daily basis though I'm afraid
