It's a scheme that seems to work on other forum based sites (b3ta for example), be it a ban idea or a system where you can ignore people.

Put it this way, if you don't do it, people will go off and form specific forum sites such as vx220.org. I made the mistake of going on that forum (while owning a VX220T I might add) and asking whether anyone though the car was as rubbish as I did. Talk about being flamed! Anyway, the point I'm making is what is wrong with having a site where the general concensus is that the product is fine albeit flawed? Why have other people from other marques come into your forum and making generally exaggerated claims and talking your marque down. Its like turning up at a concert then slagging the band off at the top of your voice.

Sure, everyone's entitled to their own opinion but what happened to good manners? You're not proving anything to anyone by ranting about something you know very little about.

Criticism is fine if its constructive. Pain in the @rse if its just criticism for the sake of it.

Interesting but you need to remember this is no longer a TVR only forum and does incorporate different cars other than TVR, albeit the forum still has many TVR fans.

Good manners are hard to enforce and this can be only achieved through good moderation.

What about all of the criticism of the TVR lot calling everything non TVR as Soulless?, especially Jap cars?, is that acceptable?, would it get users banned, nope, not a chance.

You would just be handing the TVR crowd a big stick to beat all of the other users with!, which would kill the forum very quickly.

There is plenty of criticism for other car makers on this forum and Ted has created a winning formula with the moderation so why change it?, the members numbers speak for themselves.

I agree that it's a varied forum and that's what makes it unique but I would have thought a voting system would allow the users (not just TVR people, anyone within a forum/ topic) to self-moderate.

To be honest, I'm pissed off with the way people go on when in 9 times out of 10 they would never say the same things to your face. We have a lot of armchair warriors knocking about on this site and I would like some tools that we (the group) could use to keep the place tidy!

I've seen such a system used on another forum. You now find only the odd post there, mostly from a newbie who doesn't realise it's a ghost town. I'd also agree with the above comments that not owning a car has little to do with being able to give an informed opinion of them. I work on plenty of cars for friends and family, and used to be a 'proper' spanner monkey - plenty of cars I could give an opinion on without ever owning or aspiring to own.

Rubbish. He formed his own opinion on the facts... Imagine if he had spent £40 odd k on a T350 without knowing about the S6 issues and then his engine went pop two weeks later

Sorry? That's lost on me. What facts are those then? That the s6 engine built between 2000 and 2002 has an error in the finger followers or that all s6 engines ever built will result in the usual total destruction of the car? There are ways of portraying the facts that can be constructive or destructive.
