Just an idea but when someone posts an "event", it usually results in a "register of attendees" which is usually a long list of names with each post quoting the previous post and adding their name.

It's sort of like a chain letter.

How about some sort of "meeting register" where you create the event and then people just add their names to it.

This can be done with the calendar function but I don't think users can create items on the calendar, only Ted. I guess it would be good if a calendar item can be created and then thread generated from that - possibly structured like a news thread with a description and list of attendees.

Yep, www.pistonheads.com/calendar is your friend

You can suggest an event there and it will appear once I've approved it. (Give me a nudge if you need it urgently).

I agree that threads need to be spawned from them though. I'll look at that.

All good stuff....but....

Can the calender function be modified to launched from specific threads/sub-forums and only show events created for selected thread (e.g. only show HSV events), or at least a filter

If above is possible, could thread moderators be given access to create events

Good ideas - if there is more user input to the calendar it could get very busy. Allowing moderators to add calendar items would be a great idea too - maybe the "suggest an event" could send a message to the mods forum to add the item. It could probably do with being more prominently displayed too, though i'm not sure where.

Yep, thanks for the suggestions.

I've given the moderators access to the calendar now. That means they can either approve suggestions or create entries directly if requested.

I'll look at how to integrate it more tightly with the forums. The concept of a set of events relavent to 'HSV' or 'TVR' is one I would like to provide as it could then become a very valuable tool. I think I can do it fairly easily - just a matter of finding a couple of hours
