...that although all weekend the various forums have had threads running on the Colin McRae tragedy, the new management of PistonHeads have not yet got around to posting anything official despite the website having been updated at 7:00 yesterday and 7:00 today.

To be fair, the 7am updates are automated to catch any stories plugged in for future publication.

PH editorial currently operate Mon-Fri. Over time that may well change to become a round the clock service but that's probably some way off yet.

I've been surprised how little coverage the mainstream media have given it.

What a shame you're getting so worked up. Yes it is a terrible tragedy but shouting and pointing fingers at innocent parties is inappropriate. Pay tribute through the threads and get off your high horse.

I agree. Shame as it shows how little attention is given to raylling, and yet the procession that is F1 gets much more.

Also, 80 people killed in a plane crash, and Nawvan Rock didn't help.

To be fair though, Pistonheads is seen as a leader in the online motoring world and there is still not even a simple story on the front page which doesn't really reflect well IMO

How are PH 'innocent' and how is this 'innappropriate'? This is a major story in the UK sports news and yet PH can't be bothered to even mention it. One of our World Champs dies tragically with his young son and you think that doesn't warranty a news item.

So 'they' do a block update just before going home - shame such a legend doesn't get a little more special treatment on a 'Motoring' related website, as mentioned the story is on all the forums, including links to other Motoring related websites dedicated pages. Richard Hammond seemed to get a lot of press on here when he survived a crash - wonder why?

(O & BTW - whats with the advertising of Baby Clothes and Cheap Flights????)

Its been said before and it will be said again, if you don't like it don't read it. Maybe Garlick/Pete/Ted felt that because that there is a mahoosive thread on Colin McRae that it was tribute enough.

Re the cheap flights and baby clothes ad. Do you think the site runs on thin air? These people pay to advertise on PH, which keeps the site free for you and me.

I don't necessarily agree with that 'if I don't like it, don't read it'. This site was built on a community of people who tend to care a little more about thier hobby then many other motoring sites and I think the sentiment shown here is more to do with the fact that people love this site and the service it provides and want it to be better than others. It may well be the forums contain many posts on the subject but the front page is the 'face' of PH to the wider world and as a fan and supporter I want PH to be the best it can be. I don't want to go anywhere else thanks - I like it just fine here.

I think it represents fairly poorly on a brand which Haymarket are now trying to push to a wider motoring audience. I can understand the news was not the first priority when Ted was running it himself but now PH is run with corporate money I would think they could of at least just copy as pasted story from Autocar etc. just as a temporary measure. It would be nice that the posts in the forum contained links of this story to PH pages rather than external sites in my eyes...

With regards to the adverts - again this site ran perfectly well with the adverts targeted specifically at the audience it caters for with adverts about motoring related services - and it's not just adverts that pay for this site - there is plenty of merchandise from the shop bought by the community also to support the site and spread the brandname too.

I don't agree that news was not important when Ted was running it. Speaking as the news editor before the Haymarket acquisition, I reckon it was given as much priority as the other elements of the site. I spent the best part of half a day, every day putting it all together, and Ted paid me the going rate to do that.

Perhaps I worded myself wrongly Manek - what I meant was the sites main focus was keeping the forums running in tip-top condition as these were and are the life-blood of the site.

I quite liked the old news, at least it was an alternative to what I'll read in autocar next week anyway... The shed of the week was of a far higher/lower standard too
