this is very funny and its good to see TED having some fun. In all seriousness tho. there are a few issues and doing your best to sort them would be grand.
Coulkd we please move this to the P & P i think people would love to read it as it was very funny.
So funny threads aren't allowed anywhere other than PnP? Coulkd we please move this to the P & P i think people would love to read it as it was very funny.

petrolTed you are joking right? you dont know what c# is. c# asp.net its all the way forward, c# is a programming language within the .NET environment and asp.net is the web side of things beauty of it is asp.net can be combined with c# anither technology fairly recent is ajax also within the .net framework. come on guy you only need to google these things which century are you living in, anyone would thing PetrolTED sat and wrote PH on punchcards(well before my time)

We've been working on this solidly since it began. Pretty hopeful that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. We should have a good indication this this afternoon. Now, back to my Dummies Guide...

By the way, you may already know, but using AJAX will speed up your sight a lot. Also try to look at JQuery (javascript. See http://jquery.com/). I have just recently been developing using these utilities, and they are really useful tools for web development...It's all about user experience on web sites. BUT FIRST thing you should do is get the core functionality 110% solid, and "tarting" it up is the last thing you should do...

Ajax won't speed anything up unless the database is performing at it's best
There are some smatterings of Ajax around. The search results page uses it for example.
Are you using SQL Server as your database? Shouldn't really matter what your using, but it's probably worth having a major clearout on it, and have an archive database for stuff not directly used for website anymore (or just remove it). Try to reduce the number of calls made from website back to the database (unless your using AJAX of course), and I would review the whole structure of the DB. Try and index the tables when and where it's possible. Make sure your queries aren't too complex. If anything is getting over complicated, it's usually coz it's been done wrong, so remember to keep it as simple as possible. There are some smatterings of Ajax around. When I first started using the website (about 2-3 years ago), I thought it was all of the above, simple, easy and quick to use. I think the problem started with the volume of people. So improving efficiency would be number 1 priority...like you said, is more likely to do with the db, than actual font end of web site...
Hope this helps.

Sounds a bit complicated. I like ASP because its like basic which I learned on a ZX81, BBC Micro etc. I googled Ajax but all this talk of asynchronous stuff left me totally befuddled. I've only just got my head around access databases. They're brilliant - so much better than those text files I used until last year.
Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party....at the posts on this thread.
Ted, and (Blaired-out) HRG - can we get onto to talking about Chicken's Blood and SCSI cables and turn this thread into another Halucinagate?

I agree with Ted, there is little or nothing I've seen in the PH forums that would be speeded up with AJAZ, and I use AJAX a lot in my systems. There are some smatterings of Ajax around. The search results page uses it for example.
It's all about the backend - hence I have a newly delivered box sat on my desk now with 92Gbytes of RAM - destined for three HP servers running exceedingly hungry database apps.
Gosh, yum, gosh, yum..... drool drool drool my sharona.... see? You just need the knack of understanding what is really going on!
