We honestly only get a small amount for this service. A couple of hundred per month.
I will tell our team to look into Phonepayplus regarding information of rates etc.
Sorry that's a total pisstake. You guys are ripping off people left right and centre and then try to dismiss the complaints because you only get a small amount for this service. A couple of hundred per month - well if it's such peanuts why do it? If it's such peanuts chuck the money my way!

So I'm curious what one of your users has to be ripped off by for you to make your peanuts? What's the gearing in cost to user vs profit to haymarket. It's a bit like those people who weigh in a Henry Moore to make a few quid from the scrap value.

Have you guys ever done a search on google for phonesafe pistonheads? Go on click the link and look how many people are complaining on forums all over the net about being ripped off. Look at how often the word 'scam' is used. Read back through this thread, see how long it's been made crystal clear that you're scamming people.

This thread and the timestamps on it are clear evidence that you're aware and simply don't give a st even though it's 'only' a couple of hundred a month. Peanuts really but not peanuts you'd be willing to give up.

We are looking into a better solution to this for all parties involved. When it wasn't in place then those advertising their cars were bombarded with canvassers and nuisance calls alike. So there is a responsibility on our part to protect the vendors.
This won't happen overnight but the ball has started rolling on this matter and it will be changing.

Why not just remove the phone contact part? If people are interesting in a car then an email system (already in place I guess?) will work and phone numbers exchanged that way if the buyer is serious.

Until a new solution is found (like the autotrader free one), there just needs to be a clearer warning. e.g. ***Calling this number will cost the price of a meal out for two***

I don't think you have been associated with PH since 2009, but this thread has been.

If anyone was interested, why is it still rumbling along in 2015?

There's a platform that we are looking at that will eliminate all the issues raised

So this is nothing about the cost of using phonesafe, although now I've seen it I doubt I'll be using it, but, I've got an ad up at the moment, it was using phonesafe, my dad suggested phoning the number to check it was working, we tried it and both of our mobiles say it's an invalid number.

Doesn't even seem to be working.

Just checked my bill: £11 for a 20min call. Bargain!

My own fault: I am sure it says the charges somewhere...

They're still hidden despite repeated complaints to PH. Haymarket are making money, no one cares if people get ripped off.

They aren't hidden exactly.

I just checked via desktop and iPhone.

Same advert.

Desktop

iPhone

Both show a clear note saying pricing / FAQs. On the iPhone one there is a "Call" button at the bottom of the advert that then shows the Phonesafe/FAQs screen before asking you to confirm that you want to call.

I guess both could say "additional call charges apply" to make it fairer?

On the desktop it shows an 07 number but there is no mention of it being a premium rate number.

No , but there's a 'PhoneSafe' logo and a link ' Pricing Info' right next to it. (you can't see them on his screenshot - they're hidden by the tinypic logo.

The problem is it starts with 07, the same as every mobile in the country. If it catches lots of people out it needs to be pointed out from the outset that people are dialling a premium rate number.
