Just discovered this thread and it makes a great read and the car looks fantastic.

It's great to see a car like this used as a daily commute when many would keep it as a weekend toy on a dry summer's day. Reminds me of that thread on here with the mega mileage 996.

Top commitment, well done! I couldn't help but notice that the original attestation of, "300,000 miles within 12 months," was made last August; what are you up to now?

Without sounding like an absolute tt, I was interested in the MOT history and it only shows 86k on the clock in the last MOT? The MOT history would show it has a genuine 86k on the clock

Im sure there is a simple answer to why.
I guess the speedo was not needed on track? A lot of Caterham owners do it, takes 2 seconds to turn it on and off for track days.

i don't think he can be accused of hiding the true mileage

Not saying he is hiding, just trying to explain to the other poster why there may be a difference.

Great story. I presume the cost of fixing it was way more than the value of it now? Three top end rebuilds in 250k miles does seem a lot!

Are you saying people "pause" the odometer on track days? It shouldn't matter where or how you clock up miles, you should record every MM you travel. If people are doing that they're effectively clocking their cars.

And I can't see how that would account for a car having a low mileage on an MOT but not in real life.

Had a friend buy a car with 90k on the clock, just mot'd..... 2 months later it still had 90k on the clock tongue out. The cable had broken/been detached long before.

This was in the days before online MOT Histories.

Fantastic thread, I've been following this in EVO magazine but great to reread everything.

I thought I recognised that number plate. It was at a VMax I went to when I had an Esprit Sport 350 (so about 10 years ago now):

This owner wont be the kind of guy who one days ever says "I should have driven it more instead of leaving it in a temp controlled garage to make money."

Well done for enjoying an epic machine. I can only imagine the number of smiles and outright laughs you must have had so far along the way.

Great stuff Simon, loved reading about this in Evo. Interesting too recently about how well the 458 did despite clocking up biggish mileage.

This reinforces my view that if (when) I win the euromillions I will be buying an early manual Murcielago as my super car, and then hopefully driving it a lot.

Awesome.

Is there a brief rundown anywhere on the internet or print of what has and hasn't been replaced in this car? Is it still all largely the original components?

I'm sure I could find out through google but wondered if anyone knows anywhere it's all nicely summed up smile

Would a replacement odo not account for that possibly? No clue, but dont they then start from zero again?
