I currently have a Gallardo LP570-4 SL Technica Edition which is a great car. However, I feel I need for a full fat v12 car with those iconic scissors doors, looks and sound. The car of choice will be an Aventador.

Unfortunately I can't currently stretch to the SV which would be superb. So I'm looking at a used example and I'd like to understand which options are essential, which are nice to have and which year is the best year to go for. Also, if anyone can provide details of servicing costs this would be fantastic.

I'm look at buying in Q1 2017 as long as I can find the right car. Hover if the right comes up this may be sooner.

Many thanks in advance,

GoM

Ah yes, bit of a school boy error - apologies. The V12 in question would be an Aventador.

The Aventador probably has an annual running cost close to a 670, small service 1k, large 3k at MD, regardless of mileage.

If that's the case then I'd be fairly happy with that as it's in line with my LP570. I'd obviously need to factor in the increase in cost of consumables.

I'm just waiting for an insurance quote which should be interesting....

Thanks for the info.

I'd love to buy one, but the prices seem to be in a similar ball park to the Aventador SVs - which are out of my budget, even with man maths and beer applied to the calculations. I'm still looking at options but I think I need to budget for a 2014/2015 car with interior and exterior carbon packs.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions guys.

I'm juggling a few projects at the moment so the actual timescales are a little fluid. Hopefully sooner rather than later in 2017 but I'm happy to wait to find the right car.

I think that this will mentally tick a box that it's a 'real' Lamborghini rather than a share platform variant. Wrong time of year to get the full experience but test drives are being arranged.

If I get the same colour as my Gallardo SL do you think the other half will notice.... :-)

Did you get a car sorted OP ?

I'm waiting on my SV coming, which should hopefully be getting built around Feb/March time and I also have a new S on order, which should be here in November. Logic being to keep mileage down on the SV, which will be a keeper forever, but use the S more.

I've kept my Verdi Ithaca (Green) Aventador for 4 years now and it has been brilliant and pretty much faultless.
A lot of owners seem to flip their cars far quicker and this is the longest I've ever owned one car, but it still puts a smile on my face every time I open the garage door.

Running costs largely depend on how much you use it and how you drive it & care for it.
On the occasional longer run you can expect 16-18mpg, on short quick runs you can expect single figures (as you'd expect) because you can't help but use the right foot and put that grin on your face.

Services can range from £2000-5000 if tyres are needed etc, but nothing too unexpected.

I've thought a few times about changing mine for a roadster or a newer car, but the original 2012 suspension was softened in later cars and if you find a good car, that's been well looked after and has no 'out the norm' history, then buy it to keep.

I've got to the stage of really 'knowing' my car, and that it has always been well cared for, so why change it when it lstill ooks better than any I've seen. I did have a wobble after 2 years and bought an FF because I wanted 4 seats, but ended up applying man maths and keeping the Lambo as well, simply as whilst the FF is a fantastic car and ideal for longer more sedate journeys, it just doesn't have anything like the presence or feel like 'an event' of driving, compared to an Aventador.

I love my car, so much so that I almost specced the same colour again on my SV, but thought I would want it to feel and look like a different car, but when I spec my new S it will almost certainly be verde green, for sure.

I'm planning on keeping my car even after my SV and S arrive, just so I can make sure I like the new cars, enough to let her go.

Also, for anyone looking to get themselves into an Aventador, I wouldn't worry too much about higher mileage cars.
Yes prices will always be affected by mileage, but the cars are solid, the engines will have been durability tested to 000's of thousands of miles and able to handle any kind of driving style, a lot of the electrics are Audi derived, so will also be robust. As long as it's been serviced properly by a main dealer or specialist, I really doubt you'd have many issues.

My car has now done around 13,000 miles and the engine actually feels to have loosened up and the car still feels solid as rock and so planted in the corners, compared to anything else I've owned. The only car that felt anywhere near as composed on the road and in the twisty stuff, was my old 911 Turbo.

Happy hunting and you're right to wait for the right car to come up .... just be prepared to be asked for prom runs and plenty of picture requests when you finally take the plunge.

Quite. That's why I've ended up never selling a Lamborghini.

Lovely car. Have you thought about removing the front numberplate? A lot of Aventador owners are taking off the plate, to tidy up the front end.

Why give some difficult cop a free shot??

I've was pulled over once for displaying my tax disc on the wrong side; questioned for 45 mins by the side of the road and had to produce my docs the next day......

Had the last laugh though. Before following me, the cops had parked on 5 yellow lines and one had come out of the dry cleaners having collected her dry cleaning. It was the same guy who'd been driving behind the desk the next morning. I said do you really want to see my documents? Yes. I then asked to see his Inspector, who told me he'd give them a bking for being idiots.

[quote=S1M VP]Did you get a car sorted OP ?

Thanks for the feedback - it's pretty much confirmed my thoughts/hopes about the ownership experience. As to sorting something out... nope, I'm being a bit of a blouse and can't quite make my mind up. If I was buying an SV then it would be a no brainer, it would be a done deal as they look amazing - but unfortunately the funds are not permitting at this time.

So options are currently range from buying a car with a view to upgrading to an S or SV later down line, or skipping the current Aventador and buying a Huracan Performante and then upgrading for an S or SV. I must admit I like the new front end on the S over the current car plus the other improvements, but it's still a fantastic looking machine. I'm also going to the Huracan Performante preview in Feb so this will rule in or out this option.

Realistically, I don't think that I'll be disappointed with any of the options but it has to be a V12 at some point... :-)

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your S and SV when they land.

Wasn't sure where to post this as there doesn't appear to be a Huracan thread per se... but I've just placed an order for a Huracan Spyder. This is my first Lamborghini having risen through the car ranks over time and now got to this point to fulfil a life's dream!

If there are any forums that other owners can point me towards, then I'd be much obliged
