This was from a road test from a publication called High Performance, it was a quarterly supplement by What Car magazine. This was the Spring 1986 edition. I know this because it was the first magazine I bought and I bought it because of the Countach. I still have the magazine to this day.
Two interesting facts:
1. Tiff Needell was the reporter - his first Journo job.
2. I got to drive this very car in 2007 when it was owned by Ian QV on here.
Full scans on my Flickr site if you want to see. Just scroll left

Oh and if you do read the article, the Countach Tiff refers to is Mike Pullen's car.
Cheers

If I remember correctly.... your smile went from ear to ear after driving BYX
Ian
Ha, hi Ian!
Yes it's fair to say I am still smiling from ear to ear. It was an incredible experience and one that will stay with me forever, your kindness knows no bounds.
Rather bizarrely I was talking to a colleague about that drive only last week and I keep meaning to put some of my (wobbly) footage on Youtube. I'll do it one day.
Hope things are good with you, though you seem to spend more time out on the water than on the road!
Now question is, did you keep your copy of the magazine??
Cheers

Quite possibly one of the best if not the best Countach video for aural pleasure. Off the line video at the start is nothing short of epic.
Amazing the way you can't hear the Porsche at all despite the fact the camera is in the car when tracking the Countach going alongside.
Thanks for posting this!

Absolutely brilliant - that video brought tears to my eyes - was fantastic to see and hear the Countach, and it was quite astonishing to watch how well it gained ground through the corners - must remember this is old school tech from the 1980s so over 30 years ago. If Mike Pullen had been driving the Countach I think the Audi would have been well thrashed because he knew how to push the Countach to the limit and beyond.Amazing the way you can't hear the Porsche at all despite the fact the camera is in the car when tracking the Countach going alongside.

This video reminds me that I really do need to upload the video I took of the Countach spin at the Goodwood chicane in the 1980s and must say it sounded and looked sensational.

Times have moved on and there may be more modern faster cars, more obese cars (fat in old school), more feminine cars, and plenty more bland economical cars... but there is only one Countach...and it's just as outlandish now as when it was first unveiled.

One thing that is worth mentioning about the video is the fact that the Countach has a dog-leg gear change so it's extremely difficult to do decent standing starts especially when up against modern day 4 wheel drive systems with all manner of traction control and launch control gizmos. I do remember going out a test drive many years ago (as a passenger) in a LP400 S and a boy racer pulled alongside us at traffic lights. The guy driving the Countach said that although he could beat the hot hatch off the line, it would be at the expense of the clutch. He quite rightly said that for fast overtaking in real road conditions the dog leg was better because 2nd and 3rd gear were straight changes so more easily selected once the car was rolling. And I think it is the reason why most Lamborghini and Ferrari have dog-leg gearboxes.
Next thing you need to buy is a decent 1080p dash-cam to record these memorable events, so at risk of sounding like an advert, go on Youtube and watch this dash cam review by Techmoan of the 0801 camera (which is the one I purchased): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdPHXv8Hzj8 which has to be one of the dash cams on the market at the moment, and it's very reasonably priced.
If you watch the 0801 video review make sure you click on the gearwheel shown below the Youtube video and select quality as 1080p to appreciate just how good it is. There is a newer 0803 on the market but it costs more money and the quality isn't really much better in the daytime. I've purchased several other far more expensive dash cams and wish I had known about this sooner which would have saved me quite a few hundred pounds and also produced far higher quality videos to drool over if I owned a Countach.
BTW, I posted the info on the dash cam thread but doubt many Countach owners and enthusiasts users would have read it!

There was a white Countach with the plate 69AE parked up on Tower bridge this morning at around 07:15. I assumed it had broken down so did stop to see if they needed any assistance but there was nobody in it. Anyone on here?

What's the white bit under the (non-Lamborghini) exhaust?
The engine cover is not correct for a U.K. 5000S either.
I think the wheels stick out just a little too much as well.
I'm calling fake!

Just been over to Tower Bridge and its still there. The po-po are dutifully parked up behind it and toot their horn if any admirers get too close to the car.
As someone else said the engine cover looks unusual for the UK, but its LHD so probably imported. The passenger seat has a multipack of toilet rolls on it. Theres also a stuffed cuddly toy in there.
The spoiler attaches differently to a 5000QV I photographed earlier this year. But, I know a lot of them had spoilers added after being manufacturered so there might not be a standard fit (??). If its a replica its a very good one, to my untrained eye at least.
I didnt stay long as a few people talked about the possibility of the thing exploding if enough tourists and city folk gathered around it.
