Why?
(He may just be very politic - he kind of said the opposite when filling my Jalpa up with oil at the 30th anniversary factory jaunt.)
He said, on the Countach, it doesn't do anything but add drag. Also it wasn't a factory part. They were fitted after the cars rolled off the production line.(He may just be very politic - he kind of said the opposite when filling my Jalpa up with oil at the 30th anniversary factory jaunt.)
I guess he could have been saying this because he was inspecting my car which doesn't have a wing, but I didn't think so.

I remember well when my first Lambo was delivered - a Jalpa.
I stood there with the dealer wondering whether or not to get the wing removed.
He said, "Look if you're worried about looking over the top, you shouldn't have bought a red Lamborghini!"
The wing's still on.
A great story, love it. I stood there with the dealer wondering whether or not to get the wing removed.

If you have the flares you need the wing otherwise it just looks wrong. Put a wing on a no flare LP400 and it looks stupid. Take your wing off an LP500 and it doesn't look right to me. I was born in 1970 and for me it has a wing. Poster car etc. Maybe if I were slightly older I'd say not. Who knows.

or the tash...... The wing was always a factory "extra' bought with your car but fitted by the dealer at your 'request'. The reason was simple. the wing could never get homologated anywhere. Accordingly it was supplied in a box and fitted by the dealer to get around that. Once you bought your cars it was for you to decide what you did with them and not longer a factory responsibility or liability.
Valentino is right. I think he once described the wing as 'just Hollywood' It is for show and has no positive effect on performance or handling. It creates no extra downforce etc. In fact it is estimated to take between 10-15mph off top speed. ( I think it was Valentino or Del Hopkins who told me that? ) Sadly I have never been able to test this as I have only had my car up to 160mph a few times. My feeling is that it is a genuine 180mph car. My car has a wing fitted. the cars vary significantly in performance depending on many things. Back when the cars were built it wasn't uncommon to have cars varying in performance by +5 to5% from the factory settings due to build As these bangers are now 30 years old or so, then it depends on how they have been used and driven. A mate who has driven many dozens Ct's says mine is fast. I do tend to thrash it at every opportunity and red line it every time i drive it. Italian tuning!
Back in the 80's Barry Robinisons cars were tested a lot by Motor Magazine and they sometimes struggled with getting good top speed figures for the cars.
I would like to have a spare bottled to swap over to take the wing off and on. It looks more outrageous with it on. Just my personal view and everyone has different ones. It is certainly good at picnics fro holding things!

I need a bit of help.
The engine cover clamp, has come off and is lost.
That is the part at the back of the engine cover that fits into the latch on the rear bulkhead to keep the cover closed.
It is effectively two V shaped with a rod which protrudes by about 2.5 cm
Could someone look at their car and give me exact dimensions for the depth length etc of it so I can get a new one built up?
Thanks
Paul, sorry but I forgot about this completely. Do you still need this info? If so I will make a point of checking mine for you ASAP.The engine cover clamp, has come off and is lost.

So is AndrewD selling his mint SA/UK car?
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...
If so, seems a shame after all that effort to repatriate it but hope it stays in UK now

After the flurry of early Countaches that sold at auction for previously unseen prices, not sure how many of the later cars are selling at the "new" price levels............???
I keep looking at the adverts on PH and see the same cars advertised again and again at the 'new' price levels, can only assume that buyers are somewhat put off by these somewhat inflated prices. Having said that, I though the same when Countach prices were around £50K and £100K, and look where they are now. What I need now is a crash in the classic car bubble prices so that I can step in and buy one
