I know its old and probably been seen many times before but has to be worth reposting - Balboni driving the Countach!

Seen that so many times. Always worth a watch. The suave motherfunster at 5.02 is easily the highlight.

Daniele Audetto - a lot older, but still looks pretty suave...

Watching that film makes me want to jump in mine and drive it, but it needs a bit of a polish first...

Does anyone know anything about the LP400S up at Silverstone Auctions at the end of the month?

https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1981-lamborghi...

The estimate seems a bit low based purely on the photos and description.
Yes. A lot of history should come with that car, As it was well known and seen a lot at events etc. new to Tim Dutton ( as in Dutton cars ) in met brown. Then registered TOO510W. Then the Steve A, who is well known as a Lamborghini owner. Repainted navy without a wing, then wing added back on. Then resprayed yellow, and I believe massively restored and for sale in France recently. Never heard any bad stories about the car, but it is well known and if restored well recently, should be a good one.

Is the Silverstone yellow a good example? The yellow car at the French auction recently, did not sell. Time will tell.

Thanks. I'm closing in on a 500S but have always said that a decent 400S would take priority. Typical - this comes up for auction the day before I leave for colder climes for a few years.

Hi I owned the 400 742 TR in 84/86 it's in the Haynes museum and I keep meaning to go and see the car as John the curator has invited me, it was originally an X reg I have some photos of me with the car on original plates before I changed plate, I also put a Sansul stereo in I never put the speakers in the door sills the previous owner did. I bought it for £58k in 84 from Parsons Green in Fulham there was a street of railway arches which had nothing but super cars in. The guy I bought it off was a bit of a character can't remember his name.
Since then I've had Gallardo Ferrari etc and I own GT Academy Group
Hope I've enlightened you

You may have been unlucky.
My experience with a 5000s and an early Diablo have been much, much better and I've owned both for 20+ years.
The clutch on a Countach needs to be used like a switch - engaged or not engaged. Riding it uses it up very quickly. You can smell it burning if you do and that's an expensive smell.
The Diablo has more electronics in it, so more to go wrong. But it's never not got me to where I'm going.

And I'm glad you sold the car . . . . . . To me. I was living on the isle of Dogs at the time. I loved this car, it was truly epic. It still is, as I know the current owner and he has crazy affection for it too.

But a Countach does not float the boat for everyone. I never have / had any driving concerns with it or my current QV. I love the fact that driving these cars is a bit of a workout. No need to mention all the negatives that others have stated, some are true. either way, it's pure theatre and still puts the biggest grin on my face. My 355 is a great car too, but its not a V12 charging bull.

Amazing to think these cars used to lanquish in the classifieds for months and sometimes years at looking back now low prices....chap in the trade I know went to a chaps house somewhere in yorkshire to bid on one that had been stood a few years and needed a clutch and a few other bits but ran well...he left it as the man wouldnt take less than 17.5K for it and he was offering 15K...

Hey thanks for ruining my morning!!!

Those were in the days before the advent of the internet so hardly anyone knew of these cars unless they appeared in the Sunday Times or one of the car magazines such as Motor or Autocar, I seem to think that the ads in the car mags tended to show POA so I never bothered making the phone calls figuring that the asking price would be too steep. I presume that the Countach in Yorkshire you mentioned was the pink one, and before you ask, I would have paid the asking price and some more had I known about it!!!

So that is three Countach's that I'm now aware of that sold for substantially less than £40,000 in the late 1990s, and four if you include the LP400 which was up for sale in 2003 for quite some time.

Perhaps those days will come round again but I'm not holding my breath...

Quite right about the Sunday Times. Bought mine in 1992 from a tiny personal ad in the Sunday Times. The guy had two. One black, one white. He just wasn't using the white one........

Like a mug, I sold it in 2001. Worse decision I ever made. We had some great times together. I appreciated the effort you went to in the sale, dropping down some books and video if memory serves correctly.

Cheers
