My New McLaren 12C Coupe (The Shmeemobile)
Discussion
I suspect there are no indies yet for McLaren because there are only 3 or 4 service centres (I think) which have only been going three-ish years so there is not the demand or the available trained staff to justify particularly in view of the amount of equipment implicitly needed (even though it must be available under EU law etc etc) and that most of the cars are still under warranty (even though it can be done anywhere using official parts under EU law etc etc) and the continuing factory upgrades
It took quite some time til Lanzante became a recognised F1 specialist

I'd suspect the warranty issue is critical to this, you need enough cars out of warranty for there to be enough opportunity. Aren't there under 500 McLarens in the UK in total anyway?
Not only that but personally I've found the service centres to be incredibly helpful, Ben at London has been fantastic looking after things on my car compared to previous experiences elsewhere. If it's things like tyres, brakes, and other consumable stuff of course that can be done anywhere.

I actually spoke to gt cars in Warrington toast about this and they confirmed that there isn't much that they can't do on an mp4...I guess it is 'just a car' after all. I must I'm sooo tempted to get one. I particularly like your colour! Yep, single white female all over again :-)
Btw. While black is probably good for resale. I really like volcano orange. What's everyone's views in that as a colour with easy resale potential?

Servicing IMHO isn't daft at the McLaren service centres. My third year service has just cost £2700 which included the fitment of
the reversing camera. McLaren also carry out lots of service "Campaigns", details of which independent's wouldn't be privy to.
It is a relatively expensive car to maintain, but then it's not a Fiat or an Audi ;-)
ETA Volcano Red is by far the best colour ;-)

The camera is £1200 right? I think every second service is more expensive because they do the hydraulic stuff, then when you hit 20k miles there's a gearbox one; my last one was my second, and just as I hit 20k...the reversing camera. I think I should probably get the camera fitted too, it's a bit of a no-brainer, just the time for installation really.

My last f430 service at stratstone cost just 850 quid. Big difference. Advisory stuff I got done at 60% of the price at an independent.
I understand the normal 12C services to be £1200 and £1800, but I also am pretty sure that when the F430 was only 3 years old the service charges were higher than £850 too?Shmee said:

Having driven one even as a Ferrari diehard I have to agree. Amazing car !
McLaren have dialled in a big chunk of soul and emotion with the already outstanding performance and technology the 12C was famous for.
Really is a big move on from the original and brilliant in its own right 12C
Putting the GREAT back into Britain. Well done McLaren you really have scored 180tyyyyyyyyyy and hit the bullseye with the 650S. Brilliant, brilliant car and you deserve all the success it will bring.
McLaren is where its at, at the moment
