Last week I got an invitation in the post from Mclaren Germany for a test drive in a 650S in a promo event!
As the Mclaren dealer is 30 minutes away from home, it would be rude not to! My 90 minute slot is booked for tomorrow :-)
As the sun will be shining, spyder or coupe? :-)
After a crap week, looking forward to this....but I'll leave my credit card at home.

Hope you enjoyed it. I was never a fan of the 12c. Just found it a little bit dull personally. My friend had one which was on the standard exhaust and I have to say I just felt the noise was very poor. So I never paid much attention to them.

I then got invited to drive the 650s and I must confess I was very pleasantly surprised. It was very nice indeed, reasonably comfortable, noise was much more improved. Very nice indeed!

It was a great experience and what a fantastic car! Unfortunately the 650S is well outside my price range but now seriously looking forward see what other cars Mclaren will come up with in the porsche 911 price bracket. Pleased to see the dealer was keen to promote the brand and service. Hadnt realised that Mclaren will honour its warranty even if the car is tracked.

McLaren were at a recent GRRC track day at Goodwood with drives in a 650S for those of us driving on the day.

The McLaren reps were keen to keep us under control so not allowed to drive as fast as in my car on the day but a great experience. I found the brakes rather wooden and lacking feel but I expect that was not going fast enough to really need to jump on the brakes.

That's odd, my 12C had the upgrades and I struggled to find any difference on track at the recent Donny customer day? In fact I though my 12C was a bit better on track, less understeer for sure

Genuinely surprised by that. The 650s i thought felt quite different in some fairly major respects. Not necessarily better overall but definitely different.

Did the test drive at Milbrook yesterday. What a car. They let you floor it on the mile straight, hitting 175mph, then drive it no hands around the bowl at 100mph and then a GT pro driver took you on 2 hot laps in it which was mind blowing. If I had 200k I would struggle to look past this car...it's a bargain for what it is! Met some very nice people from McLaren who have a real passion for what they do. Thanks to McLaren for a great few hours fun.
