Thanks, it does indeed look lovely. How are you finding the ISG thing? I'm tempted to turn it all off but apparently it is the real exhaust sound piped in so I presume it sounds good? Have you got the Sports Exhaust?

Turned off in all modes! It just makes the car sound like it's got a "Pancake" air filter fitted, intake roar and that's about it. Mine does have the sports exhaust which sounds glorious when you're "on it" ;-)

Be interesting to see what the media say about the new 488 turbo exhaust noise. I have no doubt it'll be "Wonderful, the sound of a Roman legion advancing in full battle mode" Normal nose so far up the prancing horse's a.se" stuff wink

I will probably turn it off then, didn't really like the idea of it anyway.
Really looking forward to hearing the car with the sport exhaust, I can't remember if the one I test drove had it, I was too busy negotiating the West End traffic to notice!

Well it's to be expected I suppose, Ferrari is the car everyone aspires to, I've owned one and it was a wonderful experience. This time round though the competition just didn't stand up to the 650S for me, and when you're spending this sort of money you should buy what you like, not what impresses others the most.

The 488 does look very nice, although with a wait time of 18 months and then comparable performance (or possibly less for the Spider version) than the 650S there's no way I'm waiting for that.
If it turns out to be the best car in the world then I'll probably buy one down the line but right now I can't see anything that excites me like the Mclaren!

Monday.

It's Tarocco Orange Anjum, I believe it will be arriving at Knightsbridge on Friday for prep.
I am planning to get the 5am train into London, walk to Covent Garden for breakfast and a paper, then take a slow amble across town to Sloane Street. I need to pop into Harvey Nics to change something for the other half then try to stop myself bursting until 9:30 when I'm due to pick up the car.

BBC weather is predicting rain, I'm outraged!

I'll pop in on Friday evening - and have a nosey! I would miss Covent Garden - and head for Motcomb street, SW1 - a few places to grab a breakfast and an old fashioned news agents to grab a paper. The showroom is 4 minutes walk from there - so you won't get wet!

Cheers

No you bugger! Don't go and see it before I do! You know full well how excited we get over these things!
Okay here's the deal, if you do see the car before me don't tell me anything about it!

Don't tell me that it looks good, or bad or ugly.
Don't mention the interior, the trim or the colour of the wheels.
Don't even tell me the make, the model or even how many sugars you had in your tea while you were standing looking at it!

I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!!!

<Breath and relax>

And I may well check out Motcomb Street, thanks for the heads up!

I would never ruin THAT moment!

A real good friend was as excited as you are about his new stead (Italian, curvy, a little middle aged - but very beautiful) - and basically - you could walk over his (immaculate silver and green) striped lawn (no on was allowed to walk on it - not even his kids) - you could finish his beer (you'd normally have wait for him to finish - he'd never leave any!) - you could even get his daughter pregnant (He DID say that - but I wasn't going to find out.....!!!) - but you couldn't ruin THAT moment for him! I think you get what I'm saying!

Enjoy!

Best

Yeah Carl!

Got to find stuff to do!
Taking my Mum to the Dorchester for afternoon tea on Saturday, which means I'll be dangerously close to the showroom.
Sunday I think I'll just spend hours at the gym so I get a good night's sleep.

Actually Carl I wanted to ask you something, know any really nice, out of the way country pubs around Colchester that I could take the other half to for grub on Monday afternoon?

The Boathouse in Dedham springs to mind Brad.

I am way, way closer to a pub than I'll ever be to the Dorchester Bob believe me.

Mum is 76 and this is a little treat for her, I can confidently say she has never had afternoon tea at a posh London hotel before!

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

It's great to read of your excitement Brad, I'm glad it never wears off.

Ever since my first purchase of a 50cc motorbike at sixteen, I've felt the same.

I'm buying another car this weekend too but from the very opposite end of the sports car league, an abandoned Caterham 7 as a project to share with my son. We're picking it up on Sunday but it'll be a boiler suit and McDonald's breakfast affair, even if get it to run, I can guarantee, my mum won't want a run in it!

Keep us updated with plenty of pictures when the time comes, it going to be a very long weekend for you.

Just come off the phone from Mclaren, drivers door lock has an intermittent fault, part needs replacing, Monday hand-over is off.

I've moved heaven and earth to get a clear day from work for this!

Oh well, these things happen I suppose. Re-set the countdown.
