Thanks Sydney. Is the only difference the front side vanes and the bit under the number plate? Yes it does look better - I always thought the 650s front seemed to be too fussy

12c and 650S look too feminine or lithe at the shoulders/sides

LT has fixed that in no uncertain terms !

Love it. Aggressive styling suits the track focussed car. A roof snorkel, even an imitation, would of really finished it off.
Don't think the aggressive look would work so well on the spider TBH

If you had enough money or asked nicely would McLaren build you a 675LM.

I love the 650LM styling, alloys, roof scoop, colour, but with he 675LT rear end treatment would look utterly fantastic.

Would also set it apart proerly from the rest of the special editions.

I think, as long as you could pay their invoice at the end, McLaren would do whatever you wanted

What do people think of this?'Just' another 12C incarnation or something genuinely different and bespoke?I've heard the claim that this has the potential to be a 'mini P1 without the battery (or the price tag)' and the alternative opinion that Mclaren is just too young a supercar brand for the 675 to be anything other than perpetually overshadowed by the likes of the Speciale regardless of how good it is.Could this be a breakout model or is it more of the same? Thanks in advance.

Wait for the road test with the speciale. Its going to blow it away. To improve on the awesome road going 650S is some feat in itself but as a track special this is the business

The 650S and 675LT are just 12C's in disguise. The same car with a few design tweaks, more aero, more boost, more lag. The original 12C was engineered to perfection and then the marketing dept got involved to respond to the press... Mission, forget the purity of design and make it more like a Ferrari... If you want the real deal, wait for the P14, its not too far away...

Most buyers of £200k+ cars will change once or twice, or more times before P14 is on the streets, but yes it will be amazing - can't wait.

You'd expect it to be better in all measurable criteria, but not sure Mcl have nailed the 'Emotion' side that seems to determine road tests so much in the press now days - That certainly seemed to be the case when the 650s, and previously 12C, went up against the italians
I guess we'll have to wait and see as press cars become available over the next couple of months...
In the looks department, it's certainly an improvement over the 650 in my eyes, but everyone's taste is different

Plenty of emotion in my 650S Spider in the lovely Devon sun today. Yes the sound is different to the V8 N/a 430 Scuderia but plenty of low speed burbles and cracks and pops on aggressive upshifts. I've not driven a turbo charged car with a better sound track and no complaints from me about how it sounds.

Astonishingly one of my neighbours actually commented that she thought the McLaren sounded better than the Ferrari. I did say really ? and she said yes I knew it was you coming
Personally I don't think its the same scream but its certainly fun. Those that don't think the 650S is a marked improvement on a 12C clearly haven't driven one as its plainly evident to me that McLaren addressed this emotion shortfall from 12C with the 650s.
Brilliant car that everyone seems to love. Never had so many people say to me have you won the lottery driving that £1m car

I agree, in that I think the 650S is a great car and the short drive I had of one recently (not a spider, I might add) was very impressive, but I'm only repeating what the general motoring press have concluded in their tests when comparing to 458's
Everyone to their own, and if everyone thought the same way, life would be a boring place to exist

Surely the 'emotion' side of it is totally subjective anyway? Not that I can afford either but if I was in the market a Ferrari would not get a look in. I don't doubt for a second they are great cars, but (and this is my personal opinion) I find the image of a Ferrari cheesy, crass and over hyped. I just roll my eye's whever a road tester downplays any car because it doesn't have the 'emotion' of a prancing horse badge. 'Badge' being the key word here.

Like I say, I'm sure the cars are great, but they are seemingly sold under an image that I just don't like at all. Why is it a good car? "Well, eeet is a Ferrari!" but what makes it truly great? "erm.... eet is Ferrari yeah!" but what if I prefer another car "erm... you know eeet is Ferrari yes?"

Sorry, but the 'emotion' thing to me is just a load of old balls. Like a car for the car, not for the image the car is meant to represent. Do that and you will form "emotion" about your choice, regardless of the badge.

No offense to Ferrari owners, I may not like the image but do acknowledge the cars are pretty good, I just think "emotion" is a silly way to try and justify it being better than a rival. I have read many road tests where the McLaren has beaten the Ferrari rival hands down on performance... until the end when the tester has picked the Ferrari as being "better" because of "emotion" rolleyes

ps. And having been both a 458 and a 12c round a track I have a personal observation on the sound. To me the McLaren sounded quite gutteral (think it had the sports exhaust) and loved the depth of noise it made. lots of different sounds working together, Sounded purposful.
The 458 sounded like an excited child screaming "LOOK AT ME" over and over again. Nothing but a hard edged scream that I didn't find enjoyable. 12c felt far faster from the passenger seat too and seemed to hang on forever round the bends.

I followed that exact car tonight from Woking to Bagshot. Sadly the driver didn't open her up at all on the dual carriageway near Lightwater as I was hoping frown

Just pootled along really slowly. Looked absolutely amazing in the flesh I was drooling. Brakes were ever so squeelly though you could hear them louder than the engine!

Still not convinced, I'm afraid. I need to tell McLaren that I'm out. Massively underwhelming I'm afraid!
