So what do we think a standard car will look like ? Will it be all body colour if you don't spec the carbon pack ?
I do not think it will. If you use the online configurator, the inserts, etc, stay in dark grey.
Like the front splitter and rear bumper on the 650.

Withdrew my deposit yesterday although offered one in first 10 cars from London but after 12c experience and poor customer service couldn't bring myself to support the brand again.

Think it will be a commercial success but the brand seems so confused to me and I lack confidence in it

OMG - what have I done!!!

Went into McLaren Birmingham at 11:30 this morning and spent two hours with Ian. What a lovely chap.

Just sitting in The Boot pub now, about 5 minutes from the dealership, with a completed order form for a 540C!!!!

So now the wait begins. Hopefully will be in the car for Summer 2016.

Very very excited and feel like a teenager.

Sad to hear this, could you please elaborate?

Congratulations Gary. Yes is nice not to have a pushy sell! Even though I obviously haven't driven a sports series, it sounds like it will be a great ownership experience. Hope time flies for you!

I knew I was on for a winner with Gary.
Very well done and welcome to the exclusive McLaren ownership club smile
You will not regret it [dont listen to the naysayers]

Summer 2016 seems like an eternity to wait though.

I have being playing with the idea of putting a deposit on a 675LT since before launch but hesitated for too long.
A quick check with Ian this morning and apparently the UK slots are over allocated and being offered well over list price from people who missed it... Dam it, I will have to wait summer 2018 for the 720S now. Your wait seems very reasonable now !

Thanks guys, I'm obviously very excited - and you should have put some money down on your prediction Michael smile

Ian said that it's possible that I could get the car in March but that depends on how the allocation is split across 540 and 570 models - tbd.

He expects worse case scenario as May 2016 delivery as I am only his second order for a 540.

I have to say it's been one of the most pleasant, relaxed buying experiences ever.

Think the 540 is the way to go

May buy a used one a year down the line when I understand the values and what McLaren are actually doing.

Sports series will be a success despite McLaren having upset so many 12c owners at the beginning

Ill probably wait for them to lose a bit of value first, gonna monitor the used values of 540C and look for an entry of around 90-100k.... if they dont launch another "Basic series at 80k" that is..

It was an easy bet given your numerous post last week !

What colour did you go for, options ? Or may be you dont have to specify for sometime yet.

I'm an open book smile

No need to spec anything yet - this is an open order which only needs details about 4 months before delivery when my production slot opens.

We went over the options that a 'typical' dealer car would have but Ian said that once cars are able to view at McLaren then that would be a good time for me to gauge what spec to go for. Right now I'm leaning to Carbon Black, Stealth standard wheels, and either the black/cream interior or the black interior with orange piping and orange callipers.

Obviously things will change.

Exciting times Gary, congratulations.

I popped in around 1 o'clock yesterday whilst you were doing the deal to have a look at the black 650s convertable (already sold) which I must say looked stunning in carbon black with the stealth pack & orange brakes / stiching, so sounds like a good starting point for your new car!

Thanks dsl2 - what a small world. Were you the guy who was driving the Cayman?

Yes, it was that spider that got me thinking of the orange accents - a stunning car.

Regarding carbon fibre.

I've decided that I will not have any external carbon as it's silly expensive, the car does not need it and I'd hate to think about getting it fixed!!!

Ian is not even sure that it's needed in the interior in the Sports Series - will decide once I've seen a standard interior.

Poverty spec, Poverty spec! Goal is having your coffee cup taken away after you disclose which options you went for!

Hi Gary, I spoke with London (ascot ?) on Friday and they were quoting me Q4-15 for 570 and Q1-16 for 540 approx.
Have we seen any interior pics yet ? I can't get the configurator thing to work on my iPad

biggrin

Suggested options that would return your money somewhat but would also make the car special are as follows, especially for a daily driver like mine -

Vehicle Lift
Front and rear parking sensors (no camera)
Extended leather *
Sports Exhaust
Tracker
Stealth wheel finish or diamond cut
Special paint (carbon black metallic for me I think)
Coloured brake callipers.

  • £1200 to take it to the same level as the 570 ( details not clear right now)
Personally I am not sure about the sports exhaust as it's £3180. Unless it makes a real difference, I'd take it out and choose the alcantara headlining.

The total for options including the sports exhaust is around £11,200. Take it out and put in the headlining and it's £8860 which on a £126,000 car does not sound bad to me, especially seeing the amount people spend on Porsche options.

£126k would be nice, £135 - £140 puts you in a cracking 12C (in fact so does 126 but you get my point).
Currently I want a 12C but would consider 540 just to have a new car.

Hi Gary, I was in the wife's Range Rover Sport yesterday. Very impressed with the whole look of the 650 spider in carbon black / stealth pack really worked well to my eyes with the fusion of the newer front end & the original mp4 rear end.
