MP4-12C ...... ipod connection

Hi guys, pictures of the new toy to follow but quick question.

I dont seem able to connect my original ipod classic to IRIS 1 other than via the 3.5 jack.
Before I buy a new ipod touch or similar can someone confirm that this is the case please, I have found them to be sensitive to the lead that you use to connect in the past so unsure if it is this causing the issue.
My sons latest ipod and lead connects fine.

Ha ha, can't afford one now
Have plugged in an old iPhone 3 for the moment which seems to work fine.
