half the journey involved following (read chasing) a well driven range rover SVR
about 15% a convoy of Super cars
about 10% trying to get rid of a diesel BMW on my bumper
another 10% trying to keep up with a beautiful Bugatti Veyron (M6 toll onwards)
and 15% through the 50MPH road works or village roads

The cars done a total of 12k miles and says its averaged 17.5 MPG

My wife's driven it & she likes it, the problem is shes is already planning to use it next week while i'm at work eek

I should be picking my 12C up on Friday this coming week (from Wombat Wrapping). I am going to drive up to see my old man in Cheshire on Friday night, and then heading over to visit my oldest friend in Wirksworth (Derbyshire) on Saturday afternoon.

Going to motor home on Sunday, back to Kent. If anyone fancies a meet up let me know. The roads in Derbyshire are amazing.

I'm really looking forward to doing a really long journey (c 500 miles) as a start to ownership.

Collected mine Saturday and then immediately did 150+ mile drive from IOW to Herts for a night out, followed by a "s9" breakfast meet (that turned in to a big event).

Lots of lovey metal, a couple of LTs, a couple of 12c (including mine) and a 570s
other manufactures equally represented biggrin

Now done a total of 350 miles in mine (in 24 hours)...first impressions are:- , very easy to drive, f'ing fast when it gets going, attracts lots of attention (even though its full on stealth mode), noisy (sports exhaust), IRIS2 - works an absolute treat, the car is everything I wanted it to be.

I must have a hole in the fuel tank.. consumed the best part of 100 liters.

Photo from this mornings breakfast meet- I think the photo was taken by Mosi

Small world heh! I think I saw you heading into Chorleywood (black 12C?) this morning - I was heading in the other direction in an Orange Elise 220 Cup (matches my 12C!) - only the third one I've seen on the road.

Also it never got off the ground really last year but I suggested a trip to Le Touquet for lunch or overnight trip, any interest in that ?
I also have a great route out leaving from Brands Hatch for breakfast runs to Lydd / Rye direction if any interest.
That sounds like fun, I could well be interested.

100 litres is pretty well 22 gallons..
350 miles on 22 is 15.9 MPG....

Not quite Bispal's 28 MPG collection cruise back!

You've got the record so far.. congrats!
I'm now down to 24mpg, don't know what I am doing wrong!!! I get 35mpg from my 996 too, obviously they must both be faulty?

Hi guys, breakfast run early on a Sunday no problem will do numerous times over the year and happy for anyone to join.

Regarding a French trip, I have been a member of Porsche club France for many years and know a few places to eat etc.
I was thinking a trip to Le Touquet for lunch on the Saturday, followed by a stay at a chateau near the old race circuit of chimay, dinner at chateau and then a run out and a couple of circuits of the old track now public roads and another lunch if any room left in the direction of home.
Would be a fantastic trip if we could get say 10 McLarens.
Problems are likely to be finding a weekend to suit all that are interested and one that the chateau is not booked as we would need 10 rooms.
However happy to organise if enough interest.

So after 10 days with my 12C here are the fist impressions....

1. I wanted a 'supercar' that would be really exciting, have predictable servicing and warranty costs, hopefully almost fully depreciated and be usable for holidays with the wife (boot space, comfortable & quiet if it needs to be)

2. I first drove the VO 12C at Romans in November. I liked the volcano orange and I love the guys and girls at Romans, they are fabulous.

3. Had to try another to drive and really wanted to get a McLaren warranty without having to wait 90 days.

4. Went to see the VO at Ascot unannounced, couldn't drive it there and then but put down a deposit to secure and agree to purchase subject to test drive.

5. Had some concerns over the VO and mileage at 22,000 but spoke to lots of people on PH who said high miles is fine.

6. I messaged Tim Burton (Shmee) to ask his advice as I don't know anyone with a 12C. I don't know Tim either and didn't know if he would have time to reply, but he did, many times and was really helpful and i'm very grateful to him.

7. Went to pick up my VO from Ascot. On closer inspection there were paint issues with the car, the door didn't match and other panels had match problems. I was gutted, I didn't even want to drive it as they said that's what they are all like in VO.

8. Went home and asked for my deposit to be returned.

9. Got a call from Ascot admitting the paint was not right but hadn't been repaired and certain cars did have problems with VO following a paint supplier change. They offered to paint the car and sell it to me for more than agreed!

10. Went to see a VO at One Hyde Park to see if that had paint issues, it looked fine but had a good chat with the guys there who sold the car I was viewing by phone while I was there!

11. Got spooked about VO and trying to match paint if it got damaged or chipped. Decided to look elsewhere within the McLaren dealer network (for warranty) and go for a solid colour (white or MC Orange)

12. Saw the white car at Rybrook Birmingham and it looked amazing and with only 4,000 miles, Iris upgrades, carbon engine & interior and 1 yr warranty so decided to go for it. Called and spoke to Ian Groves and put down my deposit

13. Went to see the car and had a good look around before driving. My heart sank again when i saw the lacquer peeling around the wheels at the front and rear. I pointed this out to Ian and to his credit he said he had not noticed this but agreed to rectify it and respray all affected panels for the agreed price. Car had sat in a collection for 2 years and not moved so it has a missed service but it was warrantied and qualified so all is good.

14. Went for a test drive, Ian explained everything, i was there for hours and the car drove really well. I agreed to take it there and then and paid for an additional 2nd year warranty.

15. Drive home was rainy so i took it easy, got stuck in a jam but in normal / normal car was so easy to drive and comfortable and averaged 28mpg!

16. Some initial observations (immense power aside) the white stitching on the dash reflects on the screen, slightly annoying, the lumbar is so adjustable i cant find a position I like, almost wish it didnt have it. Iris and everything else works great.

17. Door swipe is fine, I find I need to stand facing the swipe area rather than just behind it, works then for some reason all the time.

18. Did I mention how fast it is yet, relentless! Just keep accelerating!!!

19. Decided to get wheel and tyre insurance from Rybrook. £450 for 3 years, 5 tyre and 5 wheel claim limit, £300 max claim, no excess. Sounded like a good deal?

20. Visibility is great with the large screen.

21. Was sold with lift (in the advert) but doesn't have it as they only came out when the spyder was introduced. However its not needed on the 12C, from what i hear.

22. I naively believed all cars would have parking sensors, mine doesn't, wish it did but at the end of the day there is limited number of cars and you can't wait for your ideal spec.

So that's it, my first 10 days and 200 miles. Just bought a carcoon to keep it in. I am hoping to do 4,000 miles a year for at least 2 years. Need to sell my 996 targa now (can't sell an MX5), no space left!

So far so good, i'm very glad I purchased the car, its awesome!

Great write up. Very open and helpful.

On the vehicle lift. I was concerned about this and whether the car would make it up my drive. It does, even better than my previous Aston. I take it nice and slow over speed bumps, but so far no scrapes and have had to deal with some high bumps.

I'm a month in and all good and predictable. I had a 'moment' last Sunday where, just following traffic off a slip road on the M25, the car in front clearly wasn't paying enough attention and smashed it's brakes on. I had no trouble stopping but managed to safely manoeuvre out of the line and allow another car lengths worth of braking for the car behind me. No fuss or drama from the car, very impressed by the brakes (lightness helps).

Does yours have the sports exhaust? I don't and so far not missing any more noise! When you're on it, it's got a very nice sound. I maybe in a verry small minority, but for long journeys, which I plan to do, I think that it might be a more comfortable option to drive with.

Had no problems either re height of car, there are lots of speed bumps in my area and it goes over no problem, was v.cautious at first but no scrapes. I don't have the sports exhaust, I actually didn't want it as we will; be doing long trips. The Romans car had one and I prefer without but it wasn't a deal breaker either way. When you need the car to be noisy it can be but when you want to cruise up the motorway you can.

Your 'moment' sounds scary! I had one of the first Elise S1's brand new back in the day with MMC brakes. I recall coming off J8 of the M25 in the rain and hitting the brakes and NOTHING happened at all. There was a queue in front and after several manic seconds cadence braking like a loony they decided to deploy just in time for the non abs S1 to slither to a stop 10cm away from the car in front! I called Bell & Colvill who informed me the MMC brakes sometimes don't work in the wet! That's all good then!!! Brilliant car but I scared myself senseless and sold it.

Good write up.
Re 16. My 650 has Orange stitching and I found the screen reflections very invasive when I first had it but I never notice it now, it just sort of blindspots out after a while.

On this note, after six weeks I only found out today that my car doesn't have a CD player. laugh

I also couldn't tell you if it has heated seats or not.

I suppose that just goes to show how relevant they were to me.......

Also, up until this afternoon, I hadn't even touched the 'Active' button and hadn't touched the handling or power switches. It's been raining almost none stop and I was concerned about ending up in a hedge backwards! So, sun came out today, bone dry roads, took it out, both setting in Sport mode............wow!!!! I thought it was good before, throttle is so much sharper, exhaust sounds louder and angrier and this car literally feels like it might take off!!!

What! These were the first switches I played around with when I got the car just under a year ago - gives you three-cars-in-one and is even more variable given independence of each. I'm settled on a track power-train and sport aero combination and works just fine for most situations, with the occasional track/track if the roads are smooth biggrin

You can also adjust the ISG to be low/medium/high on any setting if you want via the settings on the dash!
