Several years of admiring....
Twelve months of thinking...
Five months of watching closely...
Enough faffing around...

I too put a deposit down today on a 2012 Volcano Orange beast.

Sitting here trying to keep the grin of my face, missus says I must be excited as I'm normally a miserable bugger! biggrin

Now for the wait.......

I've been monitoring the cars for sale very closely over the last few weeks and have been to see a number of them.

The majority certainly seems to be selling quickly and one or two that i believe main dealers have had for a while are also now marked as sold.

Its possible that the 570S has drawn people in but once they realise its not a £145k car but a £160k (or even £170k) car they decide a 12C is better value.

For my money the 12C is £40k cheaper, more powerful, better suspension and less depreciation. You can also get a Spider if you want.

Yes buying new allows you to spec the car exactly to your taste and gives you 3x years warranty peace of mind, but you can also buy a MCL warranty for a used 12C's.

The privately advertised car i lost to one of the main dealers has just come onto the market £19k more than he paid for it, and immediately after Christmas they increased the price of their used 12C's by £3-5k and one of them has subsequently sold.

The 12C market certainly seems to be on the up, but what affect will the 540C have in a few weeks time....?

To be honest Ian no one knows what effect it will have but really happy that people are waking up to the 12c.
For all the hoo haa surrounding the 570 in the press there does not seem to be too many on here that are actually buying one, a few of us talked about (540 in my case) but not many appear to have committed, obviously not every car fanatic is on here but it should be a good indicator no ??

Congratulations, me too, Volvano Orange from McLaren Ascot. There is so much positivity around the 12C at the moment and they are selling quickly. I went to view one at McLaren London, in One Hyde Park. Made a appointment for 3pm and when I arrived they had sold it on the phone 5 minutes earlier!

Such an awesome car I can't wait for my first big road trip!

These bloody posts have turned me from a casual nonchalant “tire kicker” weighing up worse case deprecation scenarios.......to raving panic buyer......even resorting to emailing the dealer at 6:30 this morning bounce

The most recent London VO car interested me but I'm 200 miles north of there. I'd have been a little disappointed travelling just 10 miles to find it had sold over the phone, the one you bought is very nice though! (I've looked at everything that's come up online for ages)

I had to act quick when mine came up on Friday, for me it was a quick enquiry call and an early start yesterday to drive across the Pennines to view the car. In the meantime they had several other serious inquiries while I was en-route and at the site. (Apologies if anyone here was after it!)

So I am going to be the proud owner of this gorgeous piece of engineering that had just about every option box ticked on it, ridiculously valued at £54K plus VAT on top of the car price! There are more bits on it than I could ever have expected. After viewing countless cars online and some in the flesh, I knew this one was "the one". (Don't know what I'm going to spend my my spare time researching anymore now I've bought one!)

Car needs a service and a few small jobs doing, so pick up will be in a week or two, I'm in no mad rush and trying not to have any sleepless nights like some others on here, but did wake this morning immediately thinking about the exhaust note!!. idea

Not so sure my neighbours will share my enthusiasm for the car when I start it up early one Sunday morning taking it out for a blast!

Ha ha, that's how I was starting to feel last week, cars selling left right and centre and unable to commit to something!

So if I'm right that makes it-

Me - Volcano Orange Coupe
Selon - Silver Coupe
Sarnie - McLaren Orange Coupe
SlartiF430 - Black Coupe
Cockernee - Volcano Red Coupe
Bispal - Volcano Orange Coupe

Bought in the last few weeks proving the point that people are waking up to the fact these are a fabulous piece of kit for the money. Their appearance has grown on me with time, frankly most photos don't flatter them, but in the flesh they are looking better IMO!

Come on WilmslowBoy, get yourself on this list! driving

I think you are right - the 570s is making a used 12c look like great value. The 540 is well behind on power -that is 532 brake versus 616 brake in the 12c....a long way down without the braking aero or suspension. And with options, the 540 will still come in at £140-150.

Willy waggling aside, if 199mph and 3.5s 0-60 isn't enough, then yes possibly 532bhp could be thought of as 'well' behind on power, but honestly in the real world on real roads...?

Its the 570S that for me in a year or so's time might look like the 'odd' one in the line-up to go for(?)

You can add me to the list as provisional
Dippy deposit paid (10 minutes ago)
Poorer dealer had to deal with my enquires all morning and then process my deposit, I have known him for couple of years – so need to view etc, just sort out rest of the funds and then collection

  • At what point am I supposed to tell the wife ???
