That colour combo really does work well and nice to see a rare silver McLaren.
I almost bought a pearlescent silver 650s spider but opted for Volcano red in the end.
Liked the silver myself but just thought maybe there were too many silver cars generally and particularly R8's

As someone who has also had a R8 v10 manual coupe and a MP4-12C, I can concur with everything that Perseus has already said. Great engine, soundtrack and the manual gearbox, although not as quick shifting as the 12c made a nice click/clack sound as you move the lever around the metal gate. Performance is not in the same league and the biggest disappointment for me was the handling. I had the alignment checked twice but it didn't inspire confidence through fast corners. I race karts so know when a chassis is handling well and the 12c is the best handling car I've ever experienced for a spirited drive on A/B roads, it tracks beautifully.
sold an R8 V10 for the 12c a few years ago. It was a great car to be honest and has a fantastic engine. thought the magride suspension/ride worked brilliantly on fast a/b road driving and was at least as comfortable as the Mclaren and never understood the idiotic air suspension executive saloon-like ride claims made of the 12c made by journalists but just couldn't be firmed up enough for track use. the R8 also always felt like the heavy car it is and had an insanely over servo'd brake pedal. The 12c though is by far the more natural car to drive though and if it matters, really is way quicker.

Beautiful colour. But what are the chances that you'll ever see two that colour together? whistle

Paid for, so just need to collect

Steve at Oakwood sports and prestige has been great !
I've known him for a couple of years - so thought nothing of buying it unseen.

Right at the top of the 12c price range, however very late car, spider and with Iris 2 hardware/software.

Looks stunning... what are your (and everyone's) views on paint protection film? I'm looking at Paintshield in Peterborough, any other recommendations?

Wow wilmslowboy, that looks awesome! Congratulations :-)

On paint protection I saw several cars with it but they still seem to have suffered from stone chips where the force of the stone has burst the paint under the film. Part of the reason I end up with a solid colour, thought it must be OK to paint if there are chips?

Have always gone for paint protection film as it seems like a no-brainer in keeping the car looking immaculate. Mine is the "self-healing" stuff - have no idea how it works, but any marks come out with a bit of heat from a hairdryer.

Circa £1k for most of the surfaces prone to chipping on the car.

Mines already got PPF on it, if it had not, i would have have it applied, its a small price to pay to avoid that sinking feeling when you wash your car to discover yet another stone chip.

Especially with many of the Mclaren paint colours which i imagine are very hard to match or get sprayed over.

+1 Mine has it and would have had it put on if it didn't...........as above, nothing more depressing when the stone chips start to mount up and the car starts to look tatty.........

First picture after yesterday's collection and drive home.

Am I doing this right or is it obligatory to wash, polish, preen, pamper etc before posting pictures?

Hopefully not as this is going to be a daily driver so will probably look like this most of the time!

PPF sounds like a good idea!

Wombat are doing frontal wrap on my GT3RS in couple weeks and I just bought last week a 'new' 964 from JZM (complete nut & bolt rebuild) that they are going to do a full protective wrap. Come highly recommended from several people I trust.
