I have to admit being a lurker on here for quite some time. But delighted to be able to join the the McLaren family. Now have the terrible job of actually choosing the spec. My thanks to Steve at McLaren Ascot. Great bloke.

Good question. On balance I like the direction McLaren is headed and the car is stunning to drive. The natural alternative (to my eyes) was a used 458. Great car though that is, I preferred the 570S. The chassis is so fluent and it's a cracking interior.

Congrats.

We met Steve on Thursday and test drove the white 570S they have.
Amazing car and we drove down in a 458 so were very interested to see how it compares.

What we both said was how much quieter it is inside compared to the 458 (exhaust) even with the sports exhaust fitted.

The £40k down and a £1k a month did seem very appealing i'll be honest.

Thanks Rich.

I've driven the 458 a fair bit and love it. I like the rarity of the 570 and it's a brilliantly executed bit of kit. The Spider is out next year! It was my wife who really liked the car and given the cost, I'm pretty lucky that she was as up for it as me. We won't get our car until early 2017 so plenty of time to save. In the meantime I can enjoy my '68 Charger.

Apologies for the laziness, can't seem to find details of this anywhere obvious. Be interested to know a bit more or if you have a link please?

I drove a 570S last week. Amaingly good car! Would have one over the 650 if I'm honest. Just felt so small and nimble. Was great fun on some twisties up in Scotland!

Best supercar I've driven in a while!

Bigger and heavier than 650S with less power, no hydraulic suspension or active aero ???????
Have you driven a 650S or did you run out of driving skill ?
No contest IMHO. One is a supercar and the other even in McLarens books is a sports car

He was only voicing an opinion. It would be a boring place if we all shared the same view of each and every car.

Am sure the active aero would have helped tons amd made the car much better to drive "on some twisties in Scotland" - as a matter of fact in the UK on public roads it is probably a game changer every time one drives - as is driving skill when you are on the ragged edge every other corner ....

And let's face it, no car has ever been enjoyable to drive, unless it's had hydraulic suspension.

Mmm, just had a play with the configurator. I suspect if I was in your position I might splurge just a little too much on options.

This is roughly how I'd like one.

Not driven the 650S, only the 12C... Which I found a bit full. 570S just felt more lively, which I like.

But thanks for your reply telling my opinion does not count as it differs from yours.

Incredible. How can you say you would have one over a 650S if you have never driven a 650S.

I'm sorry but that defies ALL logic in my books and is not a valid opinion when its not an informed one.

That's like me saying I would have a 650s over a P1

Defies all logic? Nope.

570s and 650S are both current production models.
So if he were to chose a NEW car he would take the 570S. Why? He drove the 12C which is close(r) to the 650s, its the same but just better in what its supposed to do.
So per his logic he doesnt want the experience of the 12C and therefore the 650S... he likes the 570S.

I dont understand the aggressive nature of your comment, let the man be.

Fu**ing hell Rambo you're a stuck record!
Just because people are preferring a 570 over your 650. - Its a personal thing, I have 3 friends that have driven the 570 and a 488 and one had driven a 650 as well. ALL preferred the 570 and said it sounded the best of those 3 too!!!

Its got less power on paper and hasn't got the trick suspension but to some the new chassis is lighter on its feet and more fun. The cabin feels newer and better put together imo too.
IMO the 570 looks a lot better too than a standard 650s (but thats obviously a very subjective thing)!!!
