How entirely predictable this thread is.

And as an aside I find them both quite ugly, especially when compared to their predecessors.

Absolutely agree on this. I still don't understand why McLaren quickly dismissed the looks of the MP4-12C, which I loved. Also the 458 was visually better than the 488.
Whereas I prefer the 650 and the 488. Funny old world smile

Not sure if smiley means a joke or whether it's simply a crass comment, so I'll use my usual backstop of "many a true word spoken in jest".

As such, if and when Volvo produce a beautiful 2 seater mid engined supercar your comment is valid. Until then it has no real value in this debate.
personally, i believe your comment that my comment has no real value has no real value
smilesmile <-- two smilies to emphasise that my post is not entirely serious

Maybe I'm a 2nd generation guy but I preferred the looks and obviously performance of F355 over the 348, the F430 over the 360, and now the 488 over the 458 although surely it should have been the F488.

Same with McLaren I personally prefer the 650S over the 12C. 2nd phase cars are an evolution and generally based on the same platform/design but improved to the optimum level before a whole new car is designed.

For the record the F355GTS is still the most beautiful car made IMHO biggrin. It was my first and it will be my last ferrari

Agree with all your points Rambo. However ...

The F355 was a very nice looking car, you can see how they improved it over the 348 so easily . Having saying that I am sure the 348 is getting better with age having the same side strakes as it's bigger 12 cyl brother

or perhaps me getting older and playing too much Outrun as a teenager.

The 360 still is the ugliest though, those lights are so kit car, and always will be.

However, throw the CS changes in and they become one of the best looking V8's to leave the factory (IMO). Strange how small subtle changes can transform a car...

Good point

Reminds me, still miss pop up headlights. Such a shame they gave way to safety.

Even a lowly Mazda

Sigh.

Loved the pop-up headlights on my old 928S. They used to come up with a little whirr and a very satisfying clunk, felt like you was loading a pod in Thunderbird 2!

I had a 928S when I was 20. Remember thinking how uber cool it was when you flashed people. Don't think I ever gave way and let so many people in, in any other car.

My Mum made the best mashed potato when I was a nipper. The chip shop round the corner made amazing chips.
They're both potatoes.

While I don't own either I have driven both a 650s and the Ferrari 488 and I personally prefer the mclaren

I find Ferraris a bit meh! Abit chavtastic horrible things unless you go for something like the FF or the f12

The mclarens is far nicer but journos always rave about Ferrari and their soul and the heritage, in other words days gone by when they used to make nice cars

Once I'm in a position my money will be on a mclaren

I am in the lucky position to have both ATM , however the plan was always to sell one and after eight weeks with the 488 here that's the one that is going just feels like a kit car compared to the 650S spider build quality is just fabulous and after 3000 miles not a squeak the 488 has four large rattles after 1100 miles and bar the sound I cannot come up with any other winning points on my Italian stallion so it's off on its way very soon.

Well I guess that's an honest comparison and opinion.

I can hardly say "shock horror" as McLaren feels a higher quality product IMHO even if it still does not have the cache of the prancing horse YET.

More people like yourself and it wont be long though
