Jeezus they need to rename this forum "Accountants That Fret About Depreciating McLarens Instead Of Driving Them".
Speculating on future value is just good healthy fun. That and driving your car aren't mutually exclusive. I put 10k on my 12C in less than 6 months - not bad for a toy - and I was talking about its future value as I was doing it. BTW, made a teeny bit of money on the 12C, so I think I did alright. For the drivers, knowing that a car might appreciate means there's a chance your high miler will stop appreciate but not depreciate too much - if so awesome, if not, what the hell, nothing to lose sleep over.Four years ago the majority of threads on Pistonheads were about the merits of certain cars, technical questions and general buying advice.
Now every thread is about values in one way or another.
If the news from Lloyds today and other indicators from the finance world lead to the expected Brexit recession we keep reading about on the business pages it will be very interesting to see what happens on these forums in another four years.

£4,600pa for a McLaren supercar seems good value to me if you compare against the depreciation and running costs of £9,700pa for a Boxster (if you changed it every 3 years). So £46k over 10 years for a McLaren 'v' £97,000 over 10 years for a new Boxster S every 3 years. What am I missing here? Its the regular car that costs more.
if you want to use your example of changing every 3 years then that's worse:http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...
£45,000 depreciation just in the first 6 months here + at least £20k to lose in the next 2 years
£65,000 depreciation + £14,000 maintenance
£79,000 in 3 years is much worse than any Boxster

That's a bad example as no one buys a 650s coupe.....http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

Same will be true of 570s once Spider comes out in a few months....bye bye coupe residuals

Agree the market for McLaren coupes is very small these days given the spider is not compromised with the carbon tub but it does still exist for some.Same will be true of 570s once Spider comes out in a few months....bye bye coupe residuals
Coupes are probably cheaper and sit a lot longer. Given there is a £20k difference at new from coupe to spider I wouldn't consider the residuals that much more of a disaster

I do agree. Spyder seems to lose the fluid lines of the coupe in profile with the roof on.
I still would though.
Agree but its minimal for the wind in your hair feeling and noise.I still would though.
The folding metal roof idea has been brilliant for spiders and couple that with a carbon tub and its pretty close to perfection.
Really cant understand why the Huracan still has a fabric roof, albeit very small. I'm sure they could have at least done a targa arrangement

Good news for McLaren though
Had a Huracan courtesy car for the last few weeks and done nearly 1k miles.
I've nick-named it ASBO as its a bit of a 1x trick pony, which might appeal to the inner child in us all if its an occasional hoon toy, but I've been using it as a DD.
It gets tiresome unlike the Macca which can be comfortable & civilised when required, or wild and super sharp at the twiddle of a couple of knobs (ooh arrr!)
