Steve Perrett at MBW is the best guy to see but be warned, the cost of parts on these can be astronomically high. Even seemingly simple bits and bobs can cost so make sure you get prices, and availability, for everything. Lots of parts you simply can't get anymore.
Lots of SLR bits are off the shelf MB parts off other models (even if it has a new SLR P/N) plus of course many bespoke which I'd imagine are the parts unavailable.

Yes I'm talking about bespoke parts. We needed a rubber windscreen seal which apart from a price of 7k was nil-stock.

Wow, thats ridiculously excessive, for a lot less than that you could get one made.

Guys
Can you please for the love of god, stop scaring the living sh*t out of me with these prices...
As far as im concerned I have been extremely lucky so far with my cars and I dont see any reason why this one should be any different..so lets please leave it at that haha.

@Stain: youve owned an SLR by any chance?
What has your experience been like?

MSO do an exhaust mod for the SLR, last time I saw their demonstrator it had it on & sounded like thunder of the gods.
Ah cool. When was this? Anywhere I can find out more about that mod? Any idea on pricing etc?
I know that the exhaust on the SLR weigh a LOT and the car needs a bit more umph in the sound department, but then again i think almost all stock cars require that.

+2 He knows these cars inside out.
Try specialoperations@mclaren.com for the MSO exhaust, a friend drove their car recently and said the exhaust sounded awesome but not too much drone on the motorway.

Agree, Steve Perrett is the only person to talk to regarding SLR. There are always one or two at Brooklands whenever I go. Most SLR that I have seen look quite rough on close inspection, I would only touch one if I knew exactly who owned it and get a feel for how they had looked after it.

When prices were at their lowest some cars ended up with owners who could afford to buy but not run them properly. I'd be very careful with provenance on these.

The car had a B-service in january with a service bill of over 7k sterling and 2 more services , so the signs bode well.
But I get your point, lets see what the PPI reveals.

Anyway know what a Roadster with 13k miles bottomed out on in the last 2-3 years?

I know of a couple changing hands in the 135-145 region but one needed a 10k service.

Ok, I found 200k GBP as bottom-out price in my search so yours is not too far off.
If I only knew back then frown

This is so true, or owners who could afford them but really didn't care about maintaining the cars at all. I think a few rough ones came over from Dubai or Saudi. Am sure the lowest price I saw was about 115-120 but it wasn't a good car.

Exactly this, and accident damage. A property developer I did business with bought one purely because it had a Mercedes badge and was expensive. He thought it was like a kitted up SL and drove it every day, parked it on the street and had zero mechanical sympathy with it. I remember telling him about carbon fibre construction and him having no clue what I was talking about.

I'm pretty sure he took a few knocks in London traffic at least twice then when I saw him a year later he was driving an E Class. Go figure...
