P14 mule in Autocar

Rambo, many buyers of open top cars are not as preoccupied as you with carbon tubs despite their obvious advantages. You need to look beyond your own bigotry where buying motives are concerned.
Someone in the market for a 570 spider right now has to go elsewhere, a simple fact you seem to want to brush under the carpet.

Once you have driven a carbon tubbed convertible you will NEVER go back. Its the future and you can only have it now with McLaren.Someone in the market for a 570 spider right now has to go elsewhere, a simple fact you seem to want to brush under the carpet.
Ok you cant buy a 570S spider right now but nor can you get a 488 or huracan spider right now. If I put 3 deposits down tomorrow the 570s spider would still probably arrive first but then McLaren is always in front .
Maybe McLaren should pay more attention to the styling of the rear of their cars as that's all buyers of the competition will ever see

or a 4C spider....
Yeah, that's amazing but Alfa ?, Supercar ? Still, great car though but not cheap
I've debated what a supercar is elsewhere (I don't believe entry level McLarens, Ferraris or Lambos are either...)
I'm put the 4C Spider forward as an alternative carbon tub'd open top...as McLaren are NOT the only ones doing that, a small correction, but worthy nonetheless.
And not a huge price rise over the current range. The lucky few will see and hear a lot more in a couple of weeks.
I found the mere 625hp in the 12C to be stupidly fast. But, as I understand it, the new car isn't just about a bit more displacement, a bit more hp and speed. Although it gets those.
Then we have the 570 Spider reveal soon after.
Should wipe away the winter blues.

This will destroy 650 prices guaranteed. I found the mere 625hp in the 12C to be stupidly fast. But, as I understand it, the new car isn't just about a bit more displacement, a bit more hp and speed. Although it gets those.

Wait and see. Not everyone has an extra £100k to spend.
Quite often a new model strengthens the value proposition of the old model. With 12C prices firm at the bottom end and propping up 650S there is not much further it can possibly drop.
£20k here or there is hardly going to destroy the market but maybe it does for you personally

They are not anything like £100k more. £30k. Mc have repeatedly said 'modest' increase'.
It should be 5% comparing msrp. However given 650 coupe prices have come down a fair bit, the actual difference between buying a 650 next year or a P14 will be pretty large. Maybe not £100k but not too far I reckon.isaldiri said:

well, he wasn't really suggesting 100k ontop of used. new to new. It may well be 80k onto of used but thats what you get when you compare a used car, say 2 year old car to a new car (even like for like) but the new variant is better in ever measurable way.
You compare it with whats available in the market at the time and as P14 is 650S replacement there are no new 650S to buy so yes I was comparing it with the last of the 650S. Also only very early 650S sold for MRRP whereas having now established the brand P14 will not be discounted.Edited by Burwood on Thursday 19th January 10:51
Anyway I bow to your greater knowledge - When did you get to see and drive P14 then to know its better in every measureable way ?
You must be a McLaren VIP customer I presume
I have no doubt its going to be yet another terrific product from McLaren but for starters it doesn't look as pretty to me.
I'm happy not to be an early adoptor and wait and see the finished product and reviews before I entertain shelling out another £100k but then if you think it will kill 650s values maybe it will be £200k by then but somehow I doubt it

I paid £210k for my 650 which listed at £251k. A 10% premium on that for a base P14 puts the difference at £66k. You are NOT going to get a discount on a P14.

You have a spider that starts with a higher base price. 650 coupe list was just under £200k I think and i meant base price was 5-ish% higher. Also your options list was probably quite punchy i think the P14 like the 675 will likely come with quite a lot of cf as standard. That's just a guess btw, I might well be wrong about that! My guess is that £240k should get you a pretty decently specced P14 anyway but I'm quite minimalist with the options as well.I paid £210k for my 650 which listed at £251k.
