P14 mule in Autocar
Discussion
Interesting thread this, a couple of photos appear of what looks like a prototype/test mule and we've got comments like "I was going to buy that but now I'm not". Really, do you buy all your cars based on what the prototype looked like?
And comments about the engine being the same 3.8 V8 but how do you know what engine is in that car from those photos.

The engine comment stems from the fact ALL the monocell cars use the same engine, from the P1 down to the 540.And comments about the engine being the same 3.8 V8 but how do you know what engine is in that car from those photos.
I agree with you on the mule looks (assuming it is heavily disguised)
I actually think that looks incredible, instantly recognisable as a mclaren, yet takes the design away from the 12-650-675 that dont look all that much apart from each other, have seen all 3 together and a 675 is drastically different from the 12c, but still see it as no more than a mk1 gallardo (12c) compared with a lp570 (675) this p14 is in my opinion the gallardo to huracan change thats needed sometime soon, really hope it doesnt look much different than the mule, if my numbers come up ill be more than happy to take one!

I had a 12c. Just couldn't get on with the front end. Didn't look supercar enough for me. Thus I upgraded to the 650. It's a car I'm probably gonna keep forever. It's truly awesome.
I also have the rear MSO diffuser, plus the front carbon splitter, spoiler and everything else. What a car. Soooo much more road presence and exclusivity over any ferrari I've owned. Good choice Rambo!!
Yeah I'm with you guys. I had two 12C Spiders before I got my 650S Spider which has MSO diffuser as well. I also have the rear MSO diffuser, plus the front carbon splitter, spoiler and everything else. What a car. Soooo much more road presence and exclusivity over any ferrari I've owned. Good choice Rambo!!
I always thought the 'face' of the 12C looked a little cross-eyed and I never really liked the fish gills on the front bumper. So when the 50th Anniversary version came along I switched to that because I really liked the front bumper treatment a lot better. Likewise I loved the 650S the minute I saw it. I'm glad they got rid of the turning vein, increased the side vent, added the side blade and flourished the rear end a bit more. I think it improved the look of the car considerably. On mine I added the MSO carbon side blade which runs all the way to the rear wheels. I get some people feel they transplanted on the lights from the P1 but I thought it was a huge improvement myself, especially with the more aggressive splitter, side blade and intake.
But, for me, the car that really tops the P11 series in design is the 675LT. I LOVE the backend on that car. The front end continues to improve on the 650S by adding an even more aggressive 'shark' nose to the car and another go at the front splitter to make it even more aggressive. The 675LT reinforces (for me) that the P1-style lights were absolutely the right choice. Plus the lowered front stance of the car combined with the lower side intake and the beautiful swooping tail really does it for me.
But this is all subjective so what one person thinks is nice another person might now. Horses for courses!
Here are my two former 12Cs (the day I swapped the original for the 50th Anniversary edition) and my current 650S...
I should add... I think P14 is going to be a fantastic car.

MarkNC,
Your 650S looks great with the amber indicator, just breaks that curve up nicely, I like that.
What wheels did you have on your old 12C - diamond cut or stealth, I can't quite work it out.
The amber indicators are required in the USA. Your 650S looks great with the amber indicator, just breaks that curve up nicely, I like that.

The wheels were diamond cut. Here's a better picture. It was Fire Black with semi-aniline leather interior with orange stitching and piping. It was a real beauty.

Deposit placed yesterday at Bristol - Matt (Sales Exec) comes across well. Looking forward to building a relationship with them.
Congrats! The P14 is going to be amazing! McLaren is on such a roll lately. I was just explaining to someone how 'right' the 570S feels to drive and how wonderful the cabin is and how great the new 12 speaker B&W stereo sound inside that cabin. I expect McLaren will make the P14 even more inviting.MarkNC said:

I think the 50th Anniversary / MSO front looks by far the best of all 3. I can't believe McLaren didn't use this as the standard front for the 12C from the start.I should add... I think P14 is going to be a fantastic car.

Thanks Mark, fell in love with 570 seating position at Geneva earlier in the year. Would have gone for one but the leap to the P14 was too tempting. Really looking forward to seeing what she looks like, (guessed) spec sounds mega.23AJK said:

Brave shout based on those mule pics and track record of depreciation off list price for early adoptors. It works getting in early on a new Ferrari where demnad outweighs supply but thus far with the exception of the limited edition LT's McLarens don't have a solid track record to speculate on for a regular production car.
Personally I will wait and see how it turns out and then look at the lightweight special edition spider model that follows

Agree. The spec will be mega, but so was the 12c spec v the 458 back in 2011. Performance figures never tell you the whole story, nor do they guarantee residuals. Best to hold back and see how it unravels. It works getting in early on a new Ferrari where demnad outweighs supply but thus far with the exception of the limited edition LT's McLarens don't have a solid track record to speculate on for a regular production car.
