Rambo your posting style does sometimes rub people up the wrong way and your history defending the 650s
I'd question 'sometimes' and substitute '650' for whatever he owns at the time.

As a newcomer here can I ask the regulars, does RamboLambo every post about anything other than money/residuals or how the 650 is the best car ever made?

Seems his usernames are as factually accurate as his posts then...

That's fair enough but my advice, for what its worth, is tread with caution and go in with your eyes open expecting the worse.
Early 12C adoptors are more qualified than me to talk about £100k losses.

Its very easy to get carried away with the new cars and all the hype that surrounds them especially in this crazy market right now.
New cars fetching a premium has been the norm for a few years now but those that follow the market know that these overinflated prices are not realistic anymore and the cars are not selling for the advertised prices

I desperately want to add a 458 Speciale to my stable and recently came into a unexpected windfall that allows me to buy one but I'm simply not prepared to pay the over list prices advertised on used cars that have remained unsold for 12 months +

I'm waiting for the big market correction on these and other cars like the 675 LT before I buy again

Fair play. McLaren have come a long way since 2011 and the MP4 -12C and are on a real roll now and their cars are just awesome for the money.

Its unfair to judge the P14 on those poor quality heavily disguised mule pictures and I'm sure McLaren will continue to improve with each new generation car it brings to market.
If P14 is better than the 650S/675LT it will be one hell of a car for sure so good luck and enjoy.
Its going to be a long and painful wait for you but worth it in the end

Cheers mate, I know you like a McLaren so if anyone here was going to approve I knew it'd be you.

At the McLaren Winter Ball on Saturday they revealed the P14 to us lucky folks in attendance and let me tell you the P14 is absolutely stunning! It's easily the most beautiful McLaren yet and this is coming from a guy who owns, or has owned, two 12C Spiders, 650S Spider, 570S coupe, 675LT and a P1.

Everyone surrendered their phones/cameras to go into the suite to see the car in small groups of 30 or so. They started with a film of two P14s running with lots of different angles of the cars in motion, including some shots of the interior, the wing moving, some of the intricate design details and the amazing sound of the car. I confirmed with McLaren that they were real cars and not computer-generated. I didn't think they were CG but these days you can't always tell.

As the film finished up the wall it was projecting on slid back to reveal an actual P14 on a darkened stage turntable, with the running lights on. As the car rotated around the stage lights came up to reveal the gorgeous white P14 with a black roof and lots of carbon fiber. Because the car was on a moving turntable you had to stand back a few feet and there was security there to make sure you didn't leave any fingerprints so you could get within 5 feet of the car. The running lights were lit up which looked amazing and you got to see it turn a few times so you could appreciate it from several different angles. The badge was removed so there was no indication of final model number or horsepower specification. You could see into the interior (they also showed some of that in the film) but nobody was allowed to sit in the car and the doors were kept shut. It was a very brief, but very exciting, limited reveal of an amazing new car that I believe, more now than ever, will be a huge milestone for McLaren and help elevate the brand to new heights. I can't see any way this car won't be a massive success. In his speech CEO Mike Flewitt said they had made so many advancements on P14 that it almost felt to them like P14 was their 3rd generation super-series car even though it is really only their 2nd generation. Seeing the car in person it certainly felt that way to me as well. Obviously there are a lot more details left to be revealed about this car but the initial glimpse, combined with the improvements they've been making to their other cars along the way, is extremely promising. Well done McLaren!!

With respect to the spy shots and the renders here's is what I feel comfortable saying:

Ignore the spy shots and the renders. I think they do a huge disservice to how beautiful the car really is. The quality & design of the trim work on the car is exceptional. The car has a crafted feel to it that there's no way you could tell from the previous spy photos of an unpainted blacked-out car with some camouflage on it still. They did show a shot of the car with the doors open in the video and it looked great. The renders are also inaccurate and very incomplete. They're completely missing the trim details and material changes plus the whole lower side of the car is incorrectly improvised, because that wasn't visible in the spy shots on which they're based. The car is way prettier than you'd assume from those shots and the various changes in materials from one area to another is lost in those.

So the spy shots are correct and it was the finished car more or less. Yes it will look better in the "flesh", as do all cars, especially the 12c. However this does not distract from the fact that this is not a game changer design, it is not a spectacular design. Very disappointing.

When are they going to develop and build their own engine?

Imo, at that point they will then become a 'proper supercar' manufacturer....

McLaren F1, Paganis, Koenigseggs, proposed Aston/Red Bull - all with engines developed and built by "somebody else".

Isn't the Koenigsegg by now running an engine of their own design?
Generally not a big deal, although they seem to be using the same/similar engine for cars at widely differing price points

AFAIK no-one else uses a variant of the McLaren engine so I don't see a problem.

Well TVR managed it, so I don't see why McLaren can't do it...

Sorry bit of a lurker here... TVR were so close to making a great engine.... after all TVR power rebuild them and offer 5 yr 100,000 mile warranties. I believe design just needed minor tweaking i.e. a few more oil feeds getmecoat

Back on to Mclarens i didn't realise the 3.8 engine wasn't there own.... whats it been nabbed from out of interest
