The 12C in hindsight
Discussion
I bought in Feb 16, a very early car in volcano orange with 5k miles at £113,500. Put 4k miles on her and sold in November for £115k pretty quickly. Prices have strengthened. I think more people are starting to appreciate their brilliance.
I got into a 12C Spider with 9k miles at 138k. Putting the roof down makes a great car even better!

I bought my 12c in December last year and was looking at prices around this time. They're typically up 5 to 10k on last years prices. I actually sold mine a few months later to get a 650 and lost nothing.
So very minor increase then. 458s have risen significantly more. Maybe a slight correction as prices became too cheap.
I was speaking to Alastair Bols recently and he was saying there was considerable interest in the early 12C's, chassis No. 100 or less, that were built in the MTC by the F1 engineers and not in the MPC. He said collectors were getting interested in these early cars with swipe doors and starting to buy good, low mileage, examples for more than later cars. There can't be many of these early cars is the UK. I know of four and as approx. 10% of global 12C's are RHD in the UK then there can only be 10 (ish). Even then there are only 280 RHD 12C's in the UK. Hard to say if prices will appreciate but the rarity, esp. of the early MTC cars means they shouldn't depreciate.
I know the owners of 007 / 035 / 079 / 080 and there are a couple more listed on the McLaren Life list.

All Ferrari's have gone through the roof in terms of asking price but just look at how many have sat 12 months plus unsold. Its very unusual for a McLaren to sit for those lengths of time because they seem more in tune with the market and sensibly priced in the first place.Maybe a slight correction as prices became too cheap.
If you follow Aldous's price index for 360 and F430 you will see Ferrari prices are actually ooming down now.
My neighbour was trying to sell his 2014 high spec 458 Italia for 6 months at £175k and finally took £160k cash last week.
I would say a big correction is on its way as Ferrari prices became too expensive and the gap between Ferrari and McLaren went from £20k to £40k on like for like cars.
Just look how many people on this forum alone have voted with their feet and bought a McLaren in the last 12 months.
The tide is turning

I'd have had that.....but would never have the audacity to chip a seller that much My neighbour was trying to sell his 2014 high spec 458 Italia for 6 months at £175k and finally took £160k cash last week.
my 12c spider took 5 weeks (3 weeks to sell and 2 for the buyer to sort his end out) had to give the buyer 3% discount

Yeah I did think about giving him a cheeky bid and it would of probably been higher than that but the car had too many miles for me with 17,000 on the clock at 2 1/2 years old. He also used to drive it like he stole it my 12c spider took 5 weeks (3 weeks to sell and 2 for the buyer to sort his end out) had to give the buyer 3% discount

I recently bought chassis no 34 from AB, isaldiri is right ATM the values are not dissimilar from other 12c's as the marque hasn't really attracted classic status yet.(unless of course I'm ahead of the wave as the second I was positive the extended warranty deal had been drawn up for agreement I pulled the trigger, which was over a month ago)I know the owners of 007 / 035 / 079 / 080 and there are a couple more listed on the McLaren Life list.

Long term (and I'm in it for the long game) I'm expecting the early flawed cars from an established manufacturer of superb quality cars to be the most interesting to collectors.
Meanwhile I get to drive a positively wonderful car whenever I like
It also seems like some McDealers are also aware of this interest as the chassis no is being referred to in their adverts when it's relevant.

is there any information available as to
the last car (last vin) with swipe on
the last car completed in MTC (some cars were started on MTC and finished in MPC - I take that from the film about the cars being built.
When iris 2 was standard
When the power upgrade was standard
A source of all types of anorak data for those of us that wear anoraks?

I'm one of the previous owners of this particular MP4-12C - I had it through the summer of 2015.There has been a lot of talk about the spec and build quality of these first 100 cars, having been put together by the F1 assembly line, and I have to concure.
Mine felt very well screwed together , with no rattles or squeaks, and was a great car to drive. Even the dealer commented on how well it drove.
I always had a sneaking suspicion that this first batch might become the most sought after and collectable - I guess time will tell.

For info, the first lot were assembled in the F1 building (MTC), using the same assembly line and staff as the SLR. F1 mechanics would have enough to do without messing with production cars. Then, when the Production Centre (MPC) was ready, everything and everyone moved there. Those are the facts; why the quality might suffer is another story. There has been a lot of talk about the spec and build quality of these first 100 cars, having been put together by the F1 assembly line, and I have to concure.

I came close to buying chassis #99 back in January but subsequently bought a late '13 Spider for £15k more which IMO was money well spent.I know the owners of 007 / 035 / 079 / 080 and there are a couple more listed on the McLaren Life list.

Therefore at least 5 RHD UK cars in the initial 100.

I have an early swipe version. Best car I own and have ever owned. Phew .. there I've said it !
Better than your 458 Speciale and 488 Spider then ?Wow, shock revelation. Where would that put the 650S in the pecking order then or the 675LT ?
The 650S spider is undoubtedly the best car I have ever owned, no question about it.

After 3 and a half years of ownership from new, I drove my 12C Spider for the last time today. i never recognised all the boll*** in the mags, it was one of the best cars i've ever owned and never missed a beat mechanically or electrically. It was blindingly fast and great at seeing off GT3's on track days or pottering about on a Sunday with the roof off.
McLaren Manchester are selling it on so it will be on sale at a northern independent dealer shortly. Pearl White with lots of carbon and MSO stuff, < 7,000 miles, a bargain for someone. At least I have a new 675LT Spider to console me

Lovely spec and mileage so rightly so strong money.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...
Too many of these cars are being sold off too cheap hence everyone jumping on the bandwagon. equivalent 458 would still be £40k more which is nuts.
Someone will get a cracking car
