I would be interested what peoples thoughts are on whether they would opt for the glass roof, black roof, or carbon roof?

To me a big part of the car is the glass roof to open the light in the cabin - but appreciate some wont want the excess weight and higher COG that the glass brings...
When speaking with George at Geneva, I'm not sure this is such a big deal. The part you are choosing here is just the strip panel in between the two doors. All cars still get the glass "roof" panels in the doors, which let in the bulk of the cabin light.

has anyone yet solved/answered the issue of getting in or out of this whilst it's raining and not soaking the interior?
Does it employ the Rolls Royce solution?

Is it really that big a problem? Seats get wet when it's raining and you open the door anyway.

maybe, maybe not, I just thought generally speaking rain falls from above as opposed to horizontally... and given the tech and luxurious materials these things have inside, it'd be pretty annoying...

Call me old-fashioned if you will but I reckon this would look amazing in some dark metallic green (Volcano Green anyone?) with clear wheels and black calipers, notwithstanding the headlight sockets.

That's a British car after all and I don't understand why anything else than the teeth-shattering "mint" green is the only shade of green currently offered in the catalogue.
When the new brand was launched 6 years ago McLaren did have an appropriate color on the Elite palette for the 12C called "Racing Green". Unfortunately not enough people were interested and I'd be surprised if more than a dozen worldwide were produced. We even had a second owner in the USA respray one to Volcano Red sadly. This color is still available through MSO of course but you won't find it in any configurator and therefore most people aren't aware it really exists.

McLaren made a second attempt at a green paint color with the launch of the P1 and introduction of a new choice called "Petrol Green". They painted a single prototype "PP1" in that color and maybe one or two owners selected it for their production example - it is hard to spot as it usually looks black. Here's one of the few images of the prototype spotted at Goodwood where you can catch the color in it.

Also if we go back in time a bit McLaren produced a few F1s in green - notably the 5th prototype "XP5" that did the top speed record run and gets a lot of press. That color had a rather uninspiring designation of "Dark Metallic Green" and one production F1, chassis 051, seen here shares its color.

They also painted the F1 GT longtail road car prototype in green, this time naming it "Silverstone Green" and it's a color that can shift from a very dark hue to a bright metallic based on the available light. You can see that fairly well in this photo.

Not too long ago MSO delivered a 675LT Coupe in a color I believe was called "XPGreen" chosen as a tribute to the F1 GT prototype.

And there's also a McLaren P1 that has been finished in the same color too.

If you can't already tell, I've got quite the thing for green McLarens. Getting one obviously isn't impossible, but you will have to ask.

Peloton - I love this one. Have seen it a few times at the Revs Institute in Naples, FL. lovely greeny grey with tan.

This is my perfect F1.

The Revs car is a great spec, and what a wonderful place too. That isn't the original paint color for chassis 022 - it was a respray done for Miles Collier by McLaren Customer Care after purchasing the car back in 2004.

The curator at Revs told me the color doesn't have a specific name which is a shame. Absent of one, I've taken to calling it "Money" as it's a very similar shade to the green ink our currency is printed in.

No I haven't, aiming to do so on Saturday at Ascot. I think the car will look better in the metal yes as most Mclarens do (well not the F1 that looks great in photos and in person) but it doesn't take away from the fact that imo the design of the front especially is overly fussy and smacks of the design team trying too hard. Simplicity unfortunately seems to be a virtue lost on modern car designers.
Having seen it in the flesh twice, it's still too fussy for me. Very clever and no doubt very fast, but doesn't flow to my eye. 570GT is still the best looking, IMO.

No wrongs and rights when it comes to aesthetics - beauty is in the eye of the beholder - but seems like the reception is more mixed than they should be aiming for, when launching a new super car. None of that affects what an impressive piece of kit it is, and I know some people think it's stunning, without a 'but".., but for better or worse, it's the age of Instagram and it's important for cars to be photogenic to get out of the blocks with all the right buzz.

Will probably blow everyone away when the road tests come out though!

The pity is that, as far as I know, no one has had a McLaren road car in proper British Racing Green, with no metallic getting in the way.
I have often been tempted, but haven't had the courage to go for it. I think BRG could look excellent, especially with dark wheels.

I've not seen any proof of a proper one - either old or new.

As I expect you are aware, F1 chassis 023 was originally finished in "British Racing Green". I nearly mentioned it in my prior post, but as far as I'm aware no photos exist publicly which show it wearing that color. Given there are so many variations of paint that have carried the name it's impossible to know which end of the spectrum that one fell into unless MSO opens their archive someday.

Sadly the car's second owner who acquired it from Japan in 1999 felt that Silver would be a better color for the car -- there weren't enough of those already, I guess?? - and had Customer Care give it a fresh coat. I did try to source some images of it prior to the repaint through an acquaintance of that owner who'd reached out to me on a different forum, but nothing ever materialized. frown

Agreed

I was impressed with the detail but felt that it had too many not so good angles - the front, and side profile. I also feel that the front end is too "bulky" it lacks the slim line look of the 650 and 570. They have missed an open goal with this.
