I'm reserving my final judgement until I see it personally as that particular photo is bad. The renderings are better but it still looks like a Peugeot RCZ with aero to me. I'm sure in 3D a lot more of the detail and curvature will come through to wow you but I still feel its more of a hypercar looking car.
For most that will be wow, great but personally I never really like them being so wacky.
I see where you are coming from because all lambos and McLaren's and ferraris are just so subtle. Especially in dull colours like bright racing red. No one notices them.... Seriously? Pull the other one.

So what is your point? If indeed you have one.

RL says he's waiting to see the car in the flesh, seems pretty reasonable to me, not sure what your angle is.

From the little we've seen so far it looks very interesting.

Show me a spider version and I will order it right now, exciting times ahead. I genuinely think McLaren are pushing the boundaries more than any other Supercar manufacturer. As much as I love the Italian stuff, I think they may start slipping behind McLaren's innovations.

I'm intrigued to see what they do with the doors on the Spider. The Coupe we know has doors like the F1 where part of the roof comes away too, which is part of the new carbon tub. I imagine the Spider will return to doors like on the current 650S Spider.

Me too. The "T" bar in the middle isn't needed with the carbon tub so that's not an issue but clearly the doors will need to change and not provide cover as a roof.
Anyway if they haven't already done so ( and I'm sure they have ) they have got at least another 2 years to iron it out as they want to maximise sales of the coupe first and are in no rush to bring the P14 spider to market.

In the meantime if you want a spider ( which 80% of people do because of the tub and roof )you will only have the option of a used 650S S spider unless you have already got your name down for a 570S spider which hasn't even been released yet but order banks are very strong

That's true but they are more rare and what would an owner replace it with, without spending a heap of money.
A lot of 12C spiders will be on 2nd or 3rd owners now who may have bought on value for money and I think the only avenue open to that type of customer to change is to swap up to 650S at the moment.
A lot of 12C owners did that last year and once you are in a 650S spider there really isn't anywhere else to go IMHO

Or new cars: that little Alfa with the small engine .... or that big Lamborghini with the proper engine or a lot pricier very soon a huyara
Or used admittedly also expensive a CGT, F50, Zonda

in any case I don't think it is that big a deal as spiders are usually driven on the road and I am not sure how many people really care about a little skuttle shackle in the rare instances roads get rough. I certainly do not seem to encounter many roads that are not smooth ..... I would think a nice sounding engine is more important to convertible drivers

I love it --- nobody does this better than McL ---- even if I hate them.

The fact is, I would dearly love the reason to love them, in my view they just have a distorted view of their own self importance over the reasonable expectations of their customers ...

I never thought the 12C was that appealing until I bought one and ever since that day I've believed they are visually stunning smile

Hasn't there ever been a car where you (not directed at anyone specific) didn't find it appealing in early photos, but once you saw it in person you were totally won over? I know that has happened to me in my 3 decades of being a car enthusiast so I try to be a little more reserved in expressing any negativity until I've had a better opportunity to review.
You're dead on. I wasn't a fan of the 458 when I saw the first photographs but since then I've owned two of them. I wasn't a fan of the 12C in initial photographs and I've since owned two of them. Likewise the initial shots of the P1 didn't do anything for me but when I saw it in person, and had time to drink it in from all angles, I instantly knew I had to have one. Not everyone will but I think a lot of people who see this especially distorted-perspective photo and go 'yuck!' will see the actual car, or just better photos, and come to like it. That is a HORRIBLE photo and even I feel a sense of 'yuck!' when I see it.

It certainly looks better and at least in proportion but I'm still not entirely sold on it or feeling the urge for one.

Maybe I'm missing the point but when I saw the first pictures of 650S I did go wow.

Still need to see it in the flesh to get up close and touch all the aero going on.
Anyway not long to Geneva and VIP day

Much better to judge a cars' aesthetics from a computer aided image over a photo hehe
The design is divisive...not a lot new there in the way manufacturers are going these days.
drawings and renders tickle where photos don't....yep that's the same too.
No-one really knows the quality of the design until they see it in the flesh, but I bemoan the days when supercars aren't released to a fanfare of positivity and beauty from any angle...
Unless that's rose tinted specs in full effect....

"Happy frog" replaced by "Angry Kenneth Williams".....

Looking forward to seeing a real one anyway...

I agree that it's impossible to judge a cars design from a single 2d render or photo, but I can't remember the last time I saw a released supercar image and thought it was 100% perfect. Any hint of track-based aggression kills off 'beauty' and anything wind-tunnel derived is at odds with a designers sculptural aspirations. There will never be any more 'beautiful' supercars IMHO (although the Porsche 918 is close).

Personally I like the look of this new McLaren from the images shown, it looks like a McLaren without looking like a re-hashed earlier McLaren which is a difficult thing to achieve.

I've heard the customer service is terrible. Cetain people on here who own all the top Mclaren cars haven't been invited to the launch and have even asked to go and still can't which I find shocking!

Maybe that's because they take to Twitter and bh and moan about said company every time they don't get their own way?
