am with Isaldiri here, I somehow also have a tough time believing that active aero (or any aero for that matter including a GT3Rs wing or a Ferrari what not aero) will have any material effect when driving on a country road at 70 mph .... I do believe it could help a little when doing 160 mph, not sure how often you guys corner at those speeds though. I certainly don't, and only hit the speeds on straights.
Understand the sceptism but have you never stuck your hand out of the window at 70mph? Now imagine standing out the sunroof of a car holding a flat object the size of a McLaren rear wing. I'd wager it makes a difference.theRossatron said:

You would easily win that wager. I don't understand how people can think aero does nothing at legal speeds. It certainly is more important on the track but it's not exactly useless on the motorway. Heck it's very useful for winning bicycle races and those happen at far slower speeds than cars go. Edited by MarkNC on Friday 17th February 14:30

You are using aero as a generic term there - the winning cycling races is through reducing drag. The aero mode on the McLaren is aimed at generating downforce I presume - this will give a very minor effect at road legal speeds Edited by MarkNC on Friday 17th February 14:30

I'll bang my 'stability' comment in one more time, then give up.
A few interesting points. Active aero is just that, working in different ways not just downforce. Stability (as ably pointed out above) varying weight distribution, general downforce, braking and probably other aspects I have no idea about.
I've said more than enough on this now so will simply read and hopefully learn from others

I stand by my comments that Bolshy got, well - Bolshy about.
You may debate the Actively aero made you do it. It's like saying 'because Racecar' is why....
Pointless on the road and willy waving and I'd challenge those arguing that Mcl know best.
If one held that regard, one would leave the car in normal mode- unless in a scenario where Aero is relevant and of benefit
The above comments about hands out of the windows and downforce- so essentially making the car have more drag. Slower
It's not just about faster, braking assistance is about slower You may debate the Actively aero made you do it. It's like saying 'because Racecar' is why....

Yes yes I know I said I'd keep schtum .....
And what is the time around nurburgring? I'm sure it will be pretty fast....but how fast. Allegedly - 6:52 to beat for the Lambo Huracan Performante (so quickest official lap time for a road car and faster than the 918 and the Aventador SV)....Whilst I get how likely is it that the owners of the car will get anywhere close to that time - it's a great benchmark for active aero with a 300HP power deficit........
