Well here it is - the 720S
Discussion
I think the dancing dash is great! Cool idea. Focused dash for track work - no bad thing.
I don't get the gimmick point. Every super car is laden with gimmicks. This whole category of cars sells on gimmicks. Who needs 700hp in an engine? Why do we need carbon garnish in the interior? What's the point of in car data logging on a road car? Who really needs to paint their brake calipers? All gimmicks. All ok by me!

Not gimmick, but core feature of car determining how it drives. Do you need 700hp? Of course not, but having plentiful power in a sports car is the defining feature.subirg said:

I don't. Cosmetic gimmick.subirg said:

Totally pointless gimmick. This is another of those stupid expensive options alongside the transformers dashboard.subirg said:

I don't. Gimmick. So 1 out of 4 features you mention actually core to the identify of the car from my point of view.
Meanwhile, genuine innovations from McLaren (starting from the 12C) that to me are not gimmicks, but core features of the car:
- Carbon tub
- Hydro-electric steering
- Hydraulic suspension
- High specific power engine with good torque, low weight, low centre of gravity and dry sump lubrication
- Brake steer
etc.
So plenty of reasons to love these cars. It is just that for me the transformers dash - for me - is not one of them.

Wouldn't call a 700hp engine a gimmick but rather an integral part of the car. While ugly carbon in the interior, fancy dash displays etc are gimmicks imo I don't get the gimmick point. That was a good system in the 570s , but the 720s interior looks mega, and the the way the instruments move down is unique. It is called progress, and it sets this car, and McLaren, apart from the opposition, by a distance!
Yes, the instrument binnacle is what sets a car apart from the opposition! How is a gimmick like that progress???
Is that the active aero at work in that image? I can see the "on" button proving popular on the Kings Road if it is!
Shocking hypocrite mode as I dislike comments that concentrate on models' looks alone, but I'm not sure that's very nice looking. I hope a proper shot of a car in a nicer colour with a different wheel option will be more flattering.
Not that anyone in Woking should care what I think.
Edit - the wheels aren't that bad. I retract that bit.

More powerful, lighter and as seen more dramatic active aero of which McLaren has always been the king.
What bets its the quickest production car around the ring ?
It'll be interesting to see. What bets its the quickest production car around the ring ?
but not as interesting to see which adolescents wave the time around like it reflects something more than the time it'll do round that specific track
As long as these amazing machines push each other and produce something interesting that's enough for me. The pace of change make these things headlines or points for discussion for about a month only anyway...crazy...

Some gorgeous detailing going on there. Beautiful light shapes and the bubble, forward cab 'mini lmp' thing going on in some of the prototype shots looks genuinely exciting. Looks to be well proportioned with a very modern mix of aggression, engineering and beauty. This might just finally be a really good looking car from Mclaren and better than current F's and L's as well.Don't get people on here. Way too many sheep/conservative types. The 570 is an appalling looking thing yet seems to be so popular round these parts. Rear end like it was designed by a child, like a crappy plastic Lotus only more bland.
That looks nice. Not sure about the interior though. That driver-oriented center console gives some BMW-esque claustrophobia. Would probably have been smarter to do something like the more "aerated" dashboard of the 570S, as I'm not sure the tinted glass roof sections will help feel relaxed enough.
I really like how they have hidden the lateral air inlets into the doors. This is smart.
Will have to make sure the missus doesn't drop her fag in there under sudden acceleration though

So am I seeing this right, does air get sucked in from the top of the doors to the rear rads??
Plus I am loving the rear end treatment. I can wait to see some proper pics and the real thing.
As for ring lap times, do these actually translate into sales at the end of the day? The posted Huracan lap time is impressive if the that is the car that will actually be delivered to a customer, but I do wonder how compromised it will be as a streetcar.
The 720s is not a limited production special, if you can afford it anyone can buy one. Lets wait for the 720LT before we start talking about how it compares lap time wise
