So I've had 'official' word back from McLaren after the dealer spoke to head office.

Basically - Any issues with the engine will be assessed on a case by case basis and if the exhaust is found to be the reason then they will not cover. They did say that as the engine is in such a low state of tune (looking at you P1) this is highly unlikely and would be difficult for them to prove. I have never heard of any inherent engine issues?

I'll see how I get on with the standard system next week, but will more than likely go with something aftermarket, still undecided on replacing the cats or not confused

I suspect under the T&C's of the warranty the burden would not be on McLaren to prove an after market exhaust didn't impact on engine reliability. I suspect the burden would be on the owner to prove it. Worth checking the small print! As with any contract it's only worth what you are willing to spend to enforce it!

I agree with the op and ex the owner - noise plays a massive part in my ownership executive reinvented and I was very impressed indeed on the 570 I drove but even in c omparison to a 650s I drove it sounded totally muted. The 3.8 is not an interesting motor in comparison to pretty much any other v8 engine that I can think of. I liked the 570 in every way, ride, gear change, steering and braking but the exhaust would have to be changed to something more fruity for my tastes

Thread resurrected.
I’m currently in exactly the same position. Just sold my stage 5 Litchfield GTR which sounds awesome at full chat, and basically came down to R8 V10plus or 540c
Both had plus and minus points, the R8 awesome soundtrack did eventually lose out to the 540c looks.
However that muted soundtrack of the 540c is concerning me
Did anyone get any further with McLaren in relation to warranty status with an aftermarket cat back system fitted.
Also my thoughts were, if the worst came to the worst and engine did have problems I could get it recovered and change exhaust back to standard before recovery to the dealer

MSO option won't void any warranty, but is a bit more expensive than your Larini or BRE.

I'm not sure on the actual official line on the aftermarket options, I've heard both sides saying it void, or its not

I was told by McBristol that replacing the exhaust would not void the warranty. I have had a Larini cat-back fitted to my 720S. Sounds great!

McManchester confirmed that there was no impact on my warranty fitting a Larini rear exhaust as it didn't impact on the engine sensors. Putting on a full system with sports-cats would be a different matter. I think it all depends on the extent of the aftermarket exhaust system.
