Did I read that the engine in particular was tweaked so much its basically a P1 without the electrics.

I'm closing in on a few unadvertised cars that match my MSO spec requirements but owners are reluctant to give them up sub £250k yet other more basic cars are advertised for as little as £210k.
I may have to compromise on spec but on the plus side I would have a spare £40k.

The only slight reservation i have with the car is the sound compared to a N/A engine. I know it pops and bangs on both up and downshifts when driven hard and its hot but I've been told 200 cel sports cats make it sound even better so that would be first upgrade.

Glad your actual experience of the car mirrors my thoughts from a few short drives from kind owners
Trust me, the 675LT sounds great from behind when being followed. For some reason McLarens sound quiet when sat inside - general consensus is that the carbon tub suppresses the sound inside the cabin. My 720S has the sports exhaust and sounds a little subdued inside, but my mate who was following was pissing himself laughing at the noise it makes. We swapped cars so I could follow and have a listen - the sound is very different on the outside. It’s never going to match a NA V8, but still very satisfying.
Standard McLarens sound quiet yes.

But definitely not the LTs! Feel free to ask here, but I would not ask for a louder 600LT inside, it’s already too loud!

I was asked a few days ago if my 720S was a P1. Sometimes it gets a bit unnerving when I am being closely tailgated by drivers taking photo’s in heavy traffic. Since I had the custom paint job done, and with the recent bright sunshine, the car attracts a huge amount of attention - more than I have ever experienced in the previous 720S. Women look into the car expecting to see George Clooney driving it, but the look of disappointment when they spot a middle-aged, bald fat bloke in the driving seat is priceless. One chap asked if I would turn gay and marry him and he would divorce the missus.

I’ve only had the one 5 knuckle shuffle gesture in sixteen months of ownership.
I am with you on that MAC.

I also have the sports exhaust and my kids can here me on the way home from around half a mile, and likewise with friends and even the missus in following cars, they confirm its plenty loud enough, even at lower speeds when its going down the gears.

My last Ferrari had a Capristo which made the old-school F1 noise, so I am accustomed to what makes for a nice sounding sports car....my wife's motor is a 640bhp AMG 4x4 and that sounds like a spitfire.

Any mac with a sports exhaust is loud; it doesn't need to be a LT, but i appreciate they shall be louder.

Nice spirited drive in the 650 spider with well-warmed tires today. 2 years and 4 track days later I’m REALLY getting to mesh with the car better than I ever have with any other, brake-steer and all. The way it holds the line on bumpy roads, all four tyres planted but still letting me know what’s going on, is amazing. The car feels relaxed, not darty, but still instantly does what you want it to.

On the way back, top down, C-black paint glimmering - the car was veritably mobbed at each stop. A few too many non-maskers for my liking, but certainly a lot of people out there cellphones out, peering into the interior. Nice to see the car is still appreciated despite the neg posts and YT videos about McLaren.
With all the negative junk from non-owners on here. I thought I'd look back to my own old posts.

Good effort resurrecting this thread 12pack.

Each post describing McLaren ownership perfectly.

Indeed interesting - the guys peer intently at the front of the car to discern what it is. But the ladies peer intently through the windshield trying to discern who's driving...
Very true! Unfortunately for the lady, it's normally a middle-aged, slightly overweight married man

My 12C is currently snowed in, so not only can i not drive it at all, i can't even get in to start it and warm it, charge the battery....worrying slightly how drained the battery will be after a week of snow and not moving... has anyone had this situation themselves?

I mentioned somewhere before that my 650 battery still showed about 80% after being left for over 3 weeks whilst we were on holiday...in fact I never once used the charger and it was still sealed in the McLaren bag when I sold it.

I had the tracker switched off though...that sucks the life out of batteries and do not have one fitted on any vehicle.

As 12pack says...wouldn't do any harm to get shovelling.

However, Dave posted, his battery went dead as disco and it was fine after a charge; the new battery cost is a bit of a shocker and best to be avoided..

My battery (with Tracker, even though I stopped subscribing last year) would be similar I think. On a few occasions, I left it for ~1 week off charge and never saw it drop below (over) 90%.

Yep - mine did go as dead as a very dead thing (not because of a battery problem, but due to another issue that is being fixed at the moment) - but seemed back to normal after a charge.
However - I'd try to avoid this in a car park where you can't connect a charger - it would be a bit of a pain to bring it back to life. And even if you can, mine was extremely upset after going flat - although it was quite easily solved with a battery disconnect / connect.

I did learn one valuable thing though - don't ever park next to a wall on the LHS. That's actually where I was planning to move the car to when I discovered the battery was totally flat - if it had happened there, getting into the car would have been........ challenging........

Don’t let the battery run too low as the window’s will drop in readiness for safety key use with no power. Not sure what charge percentage this happens.

Yeah my experience has been universally positive people really seem to love McLarens...coming back from the Ring last month through Belgium was pretty amazing, people tooting horns lots of thumbs up and windows down egging me on to drop a few cogs and give it the beans..I obliged of course!
Only had 5 trips out but probably 30 thumbs ups - people’s reaction is really pleasing - it’s a welcome surprise that comes with McLaren ownership !

This is the best thing about owning a Mclaren apart from the driving of it! I've not had a negative reaction to mine yet which is fantastic as my personal experience has not been the best so far

Last week, somebody told me that mine was surely set to be a classic and must be a good investment, because it must be appreciating.

I wish!

Various stuff mostly minor but it's the time it takes to fix/lack of loaner that has grated on my ownership experience so far. Some I can allow for Covid but to be told a part is made to order on a Sport Series car is just ridiculous as it fits every car in the range I am told! 228 days owned and 161 days in for work is not really good enough. To be fair Client Services have looked after me in the end and I am relatively happy now but I'm still wondering what next? Don't get me wrong the car is great I love it, I'd like another just a bit further up the range but I'm not sure I will unless I get at least a year issue free going forward...
