Just trying to find the ACTUAL cost of a mclaren extended warranty for a 540/570 (I'd be looking at a 2017/2018 car) and it seems to me the options are:

1. Thorney Motor Sport - listed at https://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/product/mclare... - £2850 per year
2. Mclaren - listed at https://www.mclarenowners.org.uk/service-warranty-... (rates as from Aug 2018)
£2985 pa or £5600 for 2 years (£2800 pa) - up to 5 years old
£3570 pa or £6840 for 2 years (£3420 pa) - 5-10 years old

Not meaning to start a discussion really, but posting this to see if anyone HAS one of these warranties and so, can confirm the rates please?

£2985 is what I was quoted for mine on a 540C before Xmas but I've not paid yet as it's still at the dealer currently

Was quoted the following from a McMain Dealer yesterday via email:

“The cost for the warranty is £2,295 + vat for one year. When the car is 5 to 10 years old the cost will be £2,775 + vat“

If year 5 warranty is purchased before the 5th birthday of the car then you pay the lower figure which is also handy to know.

Those figures are correct and given the small diff between the Thorney and Mclaren one defo go with the Mcl as its pretty much bombproof...renewed last Feb and will renew again next month.

Agree with that - a difference so small is insignificant, which makes Mclaren's, as the manufacturer, the obvious choice for me.

More relevant to the cost difference is what is covered by each warranty and what is not.

I thought the cost difference between Thorney and a Mclaren warranty would of been far greater.

Does the same apply for the super series?

TMS has a limit of £10k per claim - could be relevant, and an excess of £100 (per claim or year?). Doesn't mention McLaren models, so I assume it's same price for all. Quick call would sort that out.

Indeed, I believe it's a Care Car Plan Ltd insurance policy. Almost if not all extended warranties are insurance policies and other than branding are nothing to do with the manufacturer themselves so always check the level of cover you're actually getting.

Pretty sure the TMS limit is set because they feel they can rectify any warranty-covered issue within that price bracket. I think this was based upon the gearbox leaking problem which originally required a new gearbox (£25k) but Thorney can recondition them for £10k.

That's also one of the things that makes the choice of Extended warranty, Thorney warranty or self warranty more complicated.

You might find that McLaren tell you you need a new engine or gearbox at huge expense - and if you have no warranty that's going to be very painful. But - if something that bad happens, Thorney can probably repair for far less - and you've already got a chunk of your self warranty pot towards the cost.

I'm still undecided what I'll do in August. My preference would be self warranty - but I am conscious of the impact on resale if I do.

I think your final sentence is the main event really! I was tempted to self warrant but when I finally get mine back it will be with a Mclaren Warranty due to resale. I may or may not sell it in the next year but it's far simpler if it has the Mac warranty. If I had a car I was keeping for the foreseeable future Self Warranty would be the way to go I think?

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I’m looking at possibly getting a 570gt next year and wondered what the McLaren extended warranty cost is beyond 10 years?

As far as I can tell you have to take the warranty out before the car hits 10 years old and then it’s only for a max of 1 or 2 years

Ok so up to 11 or 12 years max.
