Was quoted the following from a McMain Dealer yesterday via email:

“The cost for the warranty is £2,295 + vat for one year. When the car is 5 to 10 years old the cost will be £2,775 + vat“
The figures should not include VAT, as it is an insurance product prices include IPT

Thats all a bit out of date:

As of an email this week from my local dealer:

Sports series

0-5 years £3142 discounted to £2771
5-10 years £3726 discounted to £3392

Im not sure if there are further reductions if you buy 2 years and they are also doing it by dd monthly installs.

I thought they’d been a recent announcement that you can extended warranties to 15 years.

Give a dealer a call, I’m sure they can confirm.

Sorry one more! Can you get an independent to service a car under extended warranty?

I know it has to pass an inspection before you can take it out.

Does it have to have had a full McLaren service history though?

Would gaps in service or Indy servicing mean it couldn’t be wanted even if it passed the inspection (as with Porsche IIRC)?

Is there a cooling off period before the warranty kicks in ?

Thank you

Not 100% sure about missing services etc, I would probably say No,,, you also have to of owned the car for more than 90 days also if not already covered ( officially)

Franchised dealer service costs vary by which dealer, I'd suggest talking to your local dealership, mine were quite helpful in laying out the costs by year, roughly £1-2k a year varying by year ISTR.

Depending on where you're based I'd also suggest talking to Thorney about their servicing costs and warranty programme, and to V Engineering who's position is they'll fix things affordably without a warranty.

Cheers. I’ll do that. I looked at Thorney but a single claim limit of 10k put me off.

John Thorne has previously said that he's never yet seen a customer with a problem he can't fix for £10k, not sure if that's still the case. I think that would cover a top end engine rebuild which is more or less worst case, engines generally fairly robust on 570s I think.

McLaren warranty you’ll get new, third party you’ll get repaired, all depends how you look at things I suppose,,

Also Thorney warranty about same cost as McLaren extended, in fact probably a bit more if you can secure a McLaren one when there’s an offer on ( sports series cars )

I think the running costs are putting me off a tad. Imagine I’ll go r8 v10 plus gen 2 then look at McLaren again in a few years when I have more money behind me.

Depends on the issue but I don't see a big benefit of having say a whole new alloy suspension arm when it's just the bush that's failed, as long as you get a new bush.

For the money they charge, I’d go McLaren.

Or a sensible warranty with a £10k limit would be about 1/4 their cost?

I have extended my warranty through Mclaren.

So far door switch renewed, Coil pack replaced on top of that Mclaren have the ability to change bushes not whole suspension arms I was advised a tool was being released to do this.

I am also having the front discs and pads replaced but not under warranty but Mclaren beat the price of the independents.
