I think I am reaching the conclusion for my first foray into supercar ownership an r8 v10 gen 2 is the better choice for me. Its 3k per year cheaper in warranty and servicing and if items do fail it will be more reasonable
to repair. Also, there is an Audi 2 miles from my door. I’ll look at mclarens again after that.

Don't count on the Audis being unbreakable. Plus its just a larger TT sorry couldn't resist. If you buy main dealer warranty is included you could always bargain a second year into a deal.

Ha! My wife said the same but calls it a ‘blown up TT’. I actually like it and the v10 is a compelling proposition.

The McLaren is a more exotic and exciting car and I am continually going between them. I’ll test both when the time comes.

I do indeed. I have watched their buyers guide, thanks though as might not have been aware of them.

Unless its a v10 manual, I can't see why you'd go for one over 570 or 650.

I need to drive both. I am coming to the conclusion if I go McLaren I’ll warranty it with Thorney. It’s a 2 hour hack each way from me which a ball ache though. I’d also need ti see if they travel to undertake PPI’s.

I have. They are a similar distance from me but don’t offer a warranty.

I’d thorney will travel to undertake a PPI, and do pick up and drop off for servicing I would go with them.

I don’t know how old the McLarens are that you are looking at but just for context I paid £2900ish for service and extended warranty on a 600LT last year. I think there’s a main dealer discount from 1st April for lapsed warranty vehicles according to someone on the owners group.

I was in the same position as you and originally bought a Porsche rather than McLaren as it was the “safer” option. Then spent the next two years still looking at McLarens until I bought a 570. So the loss on the Porsche would have paid for a few years of warranty on a McLaren.

I am getting there I think. If Thorney travel to undertake PPI’s and offer drop off and pick up for servicing I am more inclined to go with a 570gt than the r8. Servicing seems reasonable at 700-1500 annually. Reliability seems to be ok if a good car is bought too. I would have the Thorney warranty too. It’s definitely the car I want to buy. Just need to do more digging and put on my big boy pants.

Seems Mclaren are getting a bit more competetive with their warranties, extending them past 10 years and reducing the cost, maybe they are realising they are loosing out to the independants like Thorney, particularly as he warranties and V etc.

Good to see them supporting the marque and their older models instead of what seemed like wiping their hands of them after 10 years, hopefully this will bolster their 2nd hand values and improve their reputation by standing by their cars.

I am sure it will be dealer dependant and some will be better than others but dont think thats any different to the other supercar manufacturers to be honest.

If they could just put their "corrosion" issues behind them on the new models, id say they are getting in line with the other marques

Do v engineering offer a warranty too?

Is it easy enough to repair and prevent repaired corroded areas? I assume McLaren will have to resolve this up to a certain age even if the car is not under an extended McLaren warranty?

The paint warranty for oxidation is 5 years. Panels are now usually repaired rather than replaced.

I don’t think V engineering offer a warranty.

If the warranty is important to you then maybe buy a McLaren Qualified car as that would come with a one year extended warranty. You could also negotiate a second year of warranty into the price.

Cars over four years old also qualify for discounted rates for servicing and parts under the 4+ scheme. Independents will still be cheaper but it depends how close they are to you.

Ah ok. I read the paint warranty was 10 years?

Pretty sure I’ll go down the Thorney PPI, warranty and service route.

10 years corrosion for something like "perforation" ie it creates a hole in the panel. Never heard of this acc happening.

5 years paint and not covered by extended warranty.

Don't stress about it though, there are lots of places that can fix and it's pot luck if it happens. my 570s is a 2017 and never suffered with any.

Other than my big 6 year service, which I negotiated off the price when buying it from McLaren, mine has cost me nothing other than to top up the warranty which I did for peace of mind. Only thing it needed was an aircon pipe a couple of months after buying it which was covered and done in 48 hours.

Ah ok. I don’t think it is too expensive to fix either. I have decided I’ll get Thorney to undertake the PPI, service it and I’ll take out warranty with them too

I am currently looking at putting a McLaren warranty on my just over 5 year old 600LT I purchased in December from an independent.

McLeeds have quoted me £984 for a MPI Check (It currently doesn't have a McLaren Warranty) and £3,392 (down from £3,726) for a 1 year warranty so a total of £4,376.

The car had only covered 3,800 when I bought it so has been sat for a lot of its life which I know is not ideal for a McLaren. I have put about 700 miles on since December despite the poor weather and have had no issues so far but my warranty from the independent runs out before long and would feel better knowing I am covered.

Having done a good chunk of research now I’ll be using Thorney for the warranty and servicing. From all I have read they are cheaper, more diligent and very well regarded when compared to McLaren.
