Thanks guys, really useful insight, I'm running without the McLaren warranty so no need for me to stick to the network and I'll probably try V for this one. It's a 5th year service anyway so it doesn't need the cabin and air filters replacing, just coolant in addition to the oil bits.

FYI Thorney also don't always replace the charcoal fuel filter unless it's necessary, but main dealers will insist on dropping the fuel tank to do it regardless of the condition

I spoke to the 'flying doctor' at V late last year about the bushes on the suspension, and when he told me their service prices and what the charge would be to collect and deliver in a covered trailer from my east coast of Scotland location, I have to say I am very tempted for this year.

I just have to weigh it up as the guys and gals at Glasgow have always been fantastic to me.

I would appreciate if more Mac owners would post up their experiences at V and their attention to detail so I can make a more informed choice.thumbup

A thumbs up from me. I have since let my McLaren warranty lapse for first time and so went for a service there which was a no brainer on cost by comparison. I was worried about this being the first service outside main dealer network but they seemed very knowledgeable, informative and comforting in approach plus they have a good reputation too.

Just over 3000miles since its service last year, and, gasp, the car stays outdoors for convience of use.

On a footnote, I still have never plugged it into its charger.

I thought McLarens were supposed to be made of chocolate...;)

Just fantastic cars.love
Out of interest do you have an outdoor car cover if so where from ?

No, only an unused indoor cover.

The car is fully PPF'd and the only issues I ever have are the black mesh grills which can start to discolour; I keep on top of that with the black wax liquid shoe polish as it makes them instantly black again and gives a protective layer of wax film whilst being unbelievably easy to apply.

I think the longest I have left it between use is about 3 weeks and the battery still had about 35% charge.

Having the tracker deactivated most likely assists with that as Admiral my insurer did not insist on that as a requirement.

I use V for my 675 as do many other owners. They are brilliant!

I would go as far as to say that a V history is better than main dealer.

As an update for any owners, my 7th service is due in July and my mac dealer has today quoted me £768 all in, and shall honour that even though its in nearly 4mths time.

How does that compare with any other owners using a main dealer for a 7yr service?

As appealing as V engineering is, it's not the price difference required for me to change.

On a footnote, they said that the extended warranty special discount offers for 1 & 2 years that are being banded about at the moment can only be offered by them on cars that are immediately coming out of the 3 year manufacturers warranty; it cannot be applied to older cars.

Maybe different with other dealers, but not Glasgow or Leeds.

Mine was near identical with Guildford 1 year ago at £800, including £120 for oil and all VAT. Only MoT was on top at £55. my 8th at 'V' was £495 all inclusive of VAT & oil, but I paid extra on top for clutch oil & filter. (I can barely believe my car is now over 8 years old!)

It's the experience of the technicians working on your car that I go to 'V' for. I also liked Guildford BUT they had a lot of personnel changes, rapidly, and that unsettled me as there was no continuity with my car and I didn't know who was working on it.

Seems to be all sorts of differing prices coming from Leeds on this warranty offer, I can’t even remember if there was such a category as coming out of the 3 years manufacturers warranty last time there was an offer on ( December ) it just said 0-5 years,, sports series below..

I hear good things about McLaren specialist SBR Engineering with competitive prices.
