I’m buying a 650s from a large dealer. One headlight has a stone chip. Would you ask for a replacement? Same for a couple of stone chips in the bumper?

Yes, just treat it like any other car purchase.

Definitely. These cars sell on condition when buying from a dealer IMO. If I am paying big dealer prices I want the car perfect. Even if you don't mind the chips; when you resell, you will need to get them done. I am buying a 650s currently and went over the car in detail and picked up an issue not already on the fix list and made it part of the deal. IMO if they will not fix then I need the price to reflect the cost of getting it done somewhere else.

You only get one shot at this stuff before you agree the price and make the deal. It is not like a post purchase mechanical/electrical fault which can't be seen and should be covered by the dealers warranty.

There is a reason dealers retail cars like this for £15k to £20k more than they buy them in for; because they are expected to sort out issues like this. If they quibble then at the very least it should be reflected in the purchase price.

I would be very interested to know the price of a new headlight and it will probably confirm why I would never buy a Ferrari or McLaren unless the cost to buy was a minute fraction of my wealth.

I’ll ask. All round it’s great. Today is a proper look and test drive.

There’s a few bits I think I’ll ask for.

Its not chips, its PPF!

couple of stone chips, they wont' repaint the panels as it costs so much, however they would touch them in at the mclaren body shop, seem fair?

The post above does not tally with the original post about the chip in the light? Are they saying that what you are seeing is only damage to the PPF? If that is the case then you may be able to get a PPF specialist to do a localised repair or heat the surface etc?

It does seem fair to have the bits touched in at a body shop - ultimately it is not a brand new car. The price paid should reflect the standard that you are willing to accept and if not you do not have Win / Win and need to decide to walk away to compromise.

I didn't realise the headlight had PPF on, I did see today.

Has anyone had volcano red paint done outisde of mclaren. I get they won't do it at the cars price point, however has anyone had it done elsewhere?

Ah, that makes sense and sounds a lot cheaper to fix.

Can PPF be heated and repaired?

Where are you - roughly?

My friend runs browns body repairs in HASLEMERE, he is only a small workshop but people take Ferraris etc to him and he is confident to work on high end stuff and other materials.

I would also call Dean Lanzante as he does refurbs and conversions so much have a paint shop connection.

Dean, Stuart Brown and I were all in the same classes at school.

Is this the car at Jardine in Bracknell that was posted about last week? You beat me to it on that one, I went to see it and it was in great condition and a superb example at that price, within hours of me seeing it the car was sold. If so well done, I think you have a great car there.

One thing I would add; did you also clock the condensation in the rear light clusters? It was pretty bad and on both sides; Jardine said they would sort it but wanted to point it out anyway.

Yep, they're being replaced as they're all cracked.

I've used both, although only M&A for body paint. In my case, they painted the entire car - so I can't comment on colour match - but it was absolutely perfect.
Chroma painted a rear bumper for me, and again no problems. However - I recall that when I got quotes for something from M&A and Chroma, Chroma were noticeably more expensive.
