Seriously, the i3, along with the i8, must be the most awful looking cars you can buy at the moment.

I just think they look ridiculous!

I don't really care about the technology or any other aspect becuase they just look awful, I guess they only sell because of the badge.
Piffle. I think they look great. Distinctive and fresh.

I think the I8 looks fantastic in the flesh however I think the I3 looks an utter mess in person like a few cars have been in an accident and cut&shut together.

Technology is great and I am sure its a nice car but one think it certainly isn't for me is attractive.

Clearly the looks polarise opinion. Anyway, so who's getting an i3? Are you getting one, Greggy? hehe

Not at the moment as just got a diesel A4 for daily duties, however I get a company car in 18 months time when I finish the graduate scheme and the I3 is down on the list so it is certainly something I will consider then due to the tax savings etc...

I just wish it looked a bit less weird, the I8 looks different in a cool way whereas for me the I3 looks different for the sake of it and doesn't work visually at all suspect its a love or hate design as you say. I personally have not heard anyone slate the I8 design at all its fantastic imo.

My i3 was delivered this afternoon, I will get a photo up over the next few days. I went for silver with the 5-spoke 19" wheels. First impressions are very very positive. Admittedly on my first drive I had 2 people walk in front of me inside 5 minutes but that's something I will just have to make allowances for. The speed and the manner with which it just catapults into the distance is like nothing else, handling is surprisingly good too. I will give it a proper cane around some country roads tomorrow, I am hoping it will impress.

The looks do divide, but in the flesh it looks very impressive and fresh. Unconventional yes, but not ugly. There always will be haters on anything innovative and different, its a shame that people feel the need to express that about another person's property but that's the joy of the internet. Has anyone been 'brave' enough to do a Readers' Cars yet?

There will always be those who choose to be controversial.

But nobody with half an engineering brain can cease to be impressed by the integrity and drive of the car, and nobody with half an eco brain can cease to be impressed by the vision and commitment of BMW.

There is only one really serious eco/electric drivers car in existence at the moment, and in my view, ..

i3 is iT.

iT just feels so right.

BMW need to drop the 2 tone bonnet, lose the base spec slot wheels, and the ugliness would disappear. Putting on ste wheels so you feel compelled to upgrade is probably losing them 100,000 sales a year.

Look on Google images for "tom moloughney red i3" to see the difference a decent wrap and wheels can do.

I'm getting Capparis white, and hoping a local body shop can get me a respray of the bonnet in factory colour.

Am not sure yet what to do to tidy up the rear. But its again a bit too much mess as standard, either all black or all white from the hatch down is whats needed.

Still its a car to buy inspite of the looks. Its whats on the inside and how it drives that got me hooked. I had a little waver when I test drove a Telsa , but then reminded myself that Telsas costs as much as a 5 acres of land with a second home + a 5 year old discovery 3 in sub saharan Africa, whereas an i3 is only a couple of grand more than an equivalent speced 1 series.

My Mrs is still learning to drive and she doesnt yet realise how lucky she is to be getting a car like this to learn in. Not sure if she'll be doing the test in it yet, biu the novelty might just confuse the examiner into passing her. LOL. She doesnt like the idea of electric cars, but I keep showing her pics of the i3 going "what do you think of this one?". And she likes it. I shouldn't have said anything and just waited for her to say... "why cant I hear the engine start". LOL

This just proves how subjective looks are and how pointless it is arguing about them. I actually think that car looks silly and what he tried to do with the fake window line etc is naff. Other's think it's amaaazing (he must have posted 100+ photos of it in the FB group and I've bitten my tongue each time, heh).

Whilst 'ugly' is probably too strong a word to describe the i3 I think, externally, it's a bit of a mess and trying to tart it up and fix it with wraps over the black panels, different wheels etc is a waste of time (& money).

A nice side by side compare of the two leading electric car's in profile.

Really shows off the different design philosophies.

In 10 years time I wonder which will be looked upon more favourably.

I know the Tesla is a techno-feast and is a generally amaze-balls car and all that, but god the styling is grim.

It looks like a Mazda 6 taxi.

No deals to be had when I ordered mine 8 months ago, doubt there are any deals to be had now.

That picture does not do it justice.

I saw a couple of Teslas in London last week, outside Jack Barclays in Mayfair.

I still don't like the styling of them. They look generic Asian hatchback to me. A silver one, I swear, looked to me like a South Korean taxi. Among the hoardes of new S class that surrounded them, they didn't look right.

I think BMW is right to take a new direction in styling for EV's. An EV simply does not need to look like a conventional car - so why make it look like one?
