So who's getting an i3?

No brand new car will ever be the cheapest way to do anything.
Given the lack of demand for the i3 what are residuals going to be like?
So if demand is lacking, anyone know if theres any deals to be had on a new i3 rex?Given the lack of demand for the i3 what are residuals going to be like?

To state that there is a lack of demand on the basis of anecdotal evidence is somewhat flawed.

There's an online Top Gear article titled "Why isn't the i3 selling?" from April.
No UK figures but it says the Leaf is outselling it 3 to 1. The Leaf isn't exactly common.
Mentions 17000 sales worldwide, which doesn't seem much.
They are virtually giving leafs away at the moment. £180 a month. No deposit. For a car that uses virtually no fuel and has no road tax that's a steal! No UK figures but it says the Leaf is outselling it 3 to 1. The Leaf isn't exactly common.

You really cannot complain about the price of the Leaf. The i3 looks nicer, is quicker, has more tech, but in pure battery form has no more range. My parent-in laws are interested in a i3 (They don't want a Nissan), so I specced one up, nearly fell off the chair when I saw the price....£44K!!! - Remember this is essentially a super-mini sized hatchback, that has a range of <100 miles.
A bit of digging around and it appears for some reasons that £44K doesn't include the £5K government discount. But even with another £5K off, its only £10K cheaper than the base model Tesla 70S, which is much more practical, has nearly 3 times the range, faster, more tech and generally a much better car.
I have seen used i3 are quite abundant, at £20K-25K they represent a decent saving over new, so probably worth a look.....Still a brand new Leaf can be had for the same price -and thats before any Nissan/dealer discounts.

Leafs can be had for even less. My Tekna was £17k new IIRC.

Base i3 is £25k. Base i3 Rex is £28k. Tesla S 70 is £51k. That more than double the base model i3. So sure the S is better in every way, but it is *double* the price!
Leafs can be had for even less. My Tekna was £17k new IIRC.
But is comes with much better base spec and most important a 70kWh battery versus 18kWh - Add in no parking sensors, rubbish sat nav (my previous car was a BMW 335i, so I know how rubbish the 'Buissness nav is'), no real time traffic info, no keyless entry.Leafs can be had for even less. My Tekna was £17k new IIRC.
Even a battery i3 specced up to the same as the Tekna (without leather) comes out at £30k after the grant - Given both the Leaf and i3 has the same range, £13k premium (75% extra) is a lot to pay for the i3 over a top spec Leaf - assuming you paid £17k for the Leaf.
But I suppose with i3 you do get the most 'priceless' option as standard....The BMW badge, which is what my in-laws want more than anything else. So a used i3 is probably what they will end up with
