I enjoy max torque's educating posts . It is a real skill to be able to put into words what the car is doing and how it reacts to inputs etc .And I imagine he knows how to correct what is going wrong too( by design ) and that must be good for us all .

So cheers to Max smile

It's been 4 years since I last picked up a new car so uncertain if the process has changed but I've got a i3 Rex on the way but this morning a whole week before I collect my car I've received the V5C?

Is this usual or was this meant to go to the dealer?

Not unusual, just shows your dealer is ahead of the game and sorted everything well ahead of schedule.

As long as it shows the date you are collecting as the date of first registration and your name is on the logbook, all is in order.

They will have loads of cars going out next week (for the same reason you've chosen to pick up yours no doubt... new plate) so its understandable for them to get ahead of the game.

Personally, I would never do that if I was them in case you turn up and its the wrong colour etc... always best to hit 'submit' on the registration application once you're sitting in the car ready to drive off.

But as I say, busy week ahead so not uncommon for them to try get ahead of the game

Thanks for post put my mind to rest.

Pleased to say the V5C checks out and at least my car is coming out in the right colour. But then I'm not buying an Aston.... The only slight frustration is not pick my own number but tbh it's not a biggie

So, had my i3 BEV delivered 1 March; thoughts so far:

Like:
Instantaneous torque
Interior (wet dream for an architect/interior designer!)
General level of next-level tech

Dislike:
It's big, not what I expected
A pillar blind-spot is nasty
View from rear - fugly

Agree, A pillar is a pain at times, I think it's the thickness and angle.

I think the side/rear view is fab .. just the front lets it down.

And does driving into strong headwinds improve the range?

Not really, I think I'd expected 'city car' size, it's the 'scale' that's odd - wide and tall.

I've been experimenting with tyre pressures to try to get a nicer on-centre steering feel. I'm now up at 3.1bar all round and it seems to have taken quite a bit of the 'lurch' out of the car, and made the centre point more defined and narrower! Will need to drive it a bit more to see if there is a consumption impact (either +ve or -ve) but it certainly makes the secondary ride feel and sound a little bit more brittle over some surfaces.

BMW I3

Length: 157.4 in
Width: 69.9 in

Ford Fiesta

Length: 159 in
Width: 68.3 in

It's still a pretty tiny car tbh

It's just a reflection of modern cars really. if you look at one next to a phase 1 Land Rover Freelander they're practically the same size!

I'd be interested in your findings, are you on 20" wheels or 19".

I'm really enjoying the car and tbh other than a slight rattle which will get resolved from the driver's door it's become very normal.

My current lease is up in october, so starting to think of what car to get. My brother has the 1st version rex and does similar annual mileage to me - 22.5k.

Lease deals on the i3 rex seem poor. PCP seems better, with a dealer deposit contribution and £387 per month x 4 yrs (@1.3% apr) (for 8k miles a year). I should save about £140 a month in fuel costs, making the monthly payment comfortably lower than my current lease deal.

Only issues are that it is a 4 year PCP and I would either have to stump up the 8.something pence p mile excess, or pay the circa £10k balloon payment.

Short of working out the cost of the excess miles and trying to negotiate the best deal with dealers, does anyone have any tips or advice that may help me please?

Picking up a 60Ah i3 BEV tomorrow. 11 months old, 1500 miles, black/suite, BMW AG company car, all options except sunroof and HK stereo.
I really wanted the Harman Kardon and a different colour but they gave me over 55% off list and a similarly attractive leasing deal. Waiting for the facelift would have added another 6 months until delivery.

Do the 19" wheels have a noticeable effect on range/comfort? I want to downgrade to 19" wheels because the car looks too dark as it is.

As the weathers warming up, my i3 is going from frugal to plain old miserly!

My 32 mile daily commute, completed today at 12.7 kWh/100Km which is 211 MPGee / 327 MPGce without really even trying!

Seriously looking at an i3 to replace my company Mitsubishi PHEV. So far I've found the dealers pretty uninterested! May lease or buy depending on the deal offered.

I will need delivery around September 2017 if possible.

Also my Sales Director is looking at a 330e but again dealers are disappointing to say the least. .????

Any one else find the i3 front chairs a bit lacking in lumbar support??

Also, i wonder if a set of 20mm lowering springs would improve the economy without ruining the ride?

(car sits very tall and high off ground as std)
