Exactly. I cannot understand why anyone would go for the 16amp option it limits future development and the option to fast charge. Still it saves you £35 I guess.

I had no choice it was nothing or 16 as they hadn't posted the 30amp one. On the basis we will be charging overnight I am not too bothered.

Successful installation yesterday.

Chappy turned-up on time to the minute. Took over 3 hours, but did a very neat job and tidied-up after himself.

Very good value for £0.

Mine's just turned up - because of the lack of survey he can't do it in the time. Coming back another day for more time.

Engineers turned up yesterday, a little bit of sucking of teeth but good guys and we found a way to do it. Our earth was present but not visible so we had to pay to run another one bonded to the main water supply. I now have a 30A socket ready to go, this turned up with a courier 1 hour before installation.

I was finding used Leaf prices for late models were a bit higher than I would like, as a result I bit the bullet and have a pre reg but otherwise new Leaf with larger charger arriving on a truck tomorrow. Have never had a new car, got it for less than a lot of used stock, hopefully the fuel savings will give me more to spend on the 964. Tesla would be nice, one day....

Charging station installed this afternoon. Was originally scheduled to happen last week but Chargemaster didn't turn up. Gave them hell on the phone and it was subcontracted out to a local company instead. He arrived exactly when he said he would, discussed the best place to have the unit and asked if he could run cables through the garage loft space to keep it tidy.

As there had been no site survey, he didn't have a spare 32a fuse for the circuit box in the garage. so I nipped out and picked one up for him to save him coming back. Not an issue for a £3 fuse. He had 12 other jobs to finish before 1st September.

Leaf is now plugged in and charging. Took the Jeep to CEF for the fuse, felt very strange driving that for the first time in two weeks!

Had the survey and told the electric box was to old for the installation frown Any idea how much it costs to update/grade my old unit for newer one?
Getting the charger fitted on Thu's next week and while the engineer is here he will upgrade the fuse box. It will cost an extra £300 to have the box upgraded (£220 + VAT) and electric and gas pipes earth bonded (£60 + VAT). Hoping that's not to bad a price as I have no idea how much electrical work cost...

Mines a no go - there is no easy path from the fuse board to outside. It has raised a longer term issue of garage plans though biggrin

Well I've had a text telling my my parcel is to be delivered. What parcel I don't know, nor so I know where to. So I can only assume it's the charger unit and it's going to home address.

Which is useful given no one is there to take delivery...

I rang them yesterday morning to chase them up as they said they'd ring me on Monday - which they didn't but they're adamant that they did contact me - how convenient....

Anyway, they told me they had a space next week on one day at 1200 but the installer had to do another job first at 1000 which would take 90 mins to complete and was an hour's driving time away at least. They couldn't grasp how that would be an issue.

I had three phonecalls last night after 1930 telling me the installation was definitely going ahead, no it's not as we've mixed up Swansea and Cumbria, and you'll get an update this morning.

I've had a call this morning saying an engineer would definitely contact me before midday. Nothing at all.

This crowd are easily the most useless bunch of cretins I've ever had the misfortune of having to deal with. I know it's a government grant funded scheme however I am going for the 30amp option. I'm not holding out hope of getting this resolved at any point soon.

Chap turned up at 9am and was gone by 1pm. All done. Bit miffed that EV Charging told me it was an 8am appt so I got up way earlier than necessary.

The only outstanding issue is that they need to come back and fit the breaker as the model of board we have is getting on and they don't carry stock of the breaker. Otherwise a very neat installation and he wasn't put off by having to route it through the toilet that's been built in the garage space (which is going to be removed at some point soon I hope).

Engineer (Simon) turned up at 14.00hr and he's still hereeek. To be fair he has changed the consumer box for a brand new shiny one as well. Have had the unit installed outside of the garage to save opening the doors every time I charge the car. It's the 16amp one as I think it will suit my needs, I'm retired and should only need to charge overnight.

I'm now thinking of booking the 7 day test drive for a Nissan Leaf, although I have already driven it, albeit 20 min's. Problem is the honking two 4x4's on my already packed drive. Anybody have knowledge or used the 7 day test yet, any catches?

It's finally been fitted after no end of trouble and me chasing them on a daily basis. However, they only supplied the 16a one as opposed to the 30a I requested so the electrician has fitted the 16a one and suggested I chase it up with Chargemaster for the 30a one as I've just scraped in by the deadline.

It's a very neat fit in fairness as he chased the cables through the plasterboard wall. I just need to get an EV to check out the charging now!

We had one for the weekend, don't know about a 7 day test though. The dealer was very relaxed about us taking the car.

And if you haven't got off street parking you can ask your local council to install a charger on the street under Olev scheme till march 2015

Spoke to a very helpful chap called Steven at Benfield Motors, Newcastle. He rang back as arranged, answered all questions asked and agreed to keeping one of my 4 x 4's in a secure compound for the weeks test drive. So, Leaf now booked for 7 days from the 22 Sep, no catches, just turn up with driving licence and off you go.

Well Monday came and went so disappointed to say the least. Apparently a mix up with the car i.e. The one put to the side for me was given to someone else, luckily I decided to call first. Dealer said he would sit down with his boss and sort out another car for this week. Promised to give me a call and let me know what's happening. Now Friday and nothing, I really find it difficult to believe a simple telephone call is too much trouble.

I'm 99% sure I'll be buying an electric car and just needed to persuade the Wife it's a good thing, so the Leaf test drive would of been perfect. Question now is, if I receive a call next week do I accept an apology or tell them not to bother and go somewhere else?

Go somewhere else.

Plenty of (usually small) businesses are trying to survive doing things properly, whilst customers excuse and reward poor treatment from undeserving businesses.

No catches - or at least none that I could find, and when I did the test drive it was bordering on taking the piss.

One day we decided to take a day trip to a beach in Northumberland - a 350 mile round trip. Charging the car cost nothing (apart from the half hour stops) and we used the cards provided by the dealer to activate the charge points. I was using the car for the sake of it, including going for a 30 mile drive just because I was bored. And because we didn't have a charger at home, I was using the free rapid chargers at the Park & Ride.

We originally planned to buy a Mercedes A Class - but the Leaf was so impressive and so well suited for our needs (the range is way more than our daily use for our second car) that we've ordered one.

I can't find a better second car.
