That is a good thought and would work well for both of us. With no dealer system in the UK it will be interesting to see how used Teslas are sold and by whom.....may be in 3 years time when you upgrade yours I can buy it off you Yesterday I tried one of the 2 RHD cars currently in the UK - in the 5 months since I drove the Model S there have been several improvements to the car. Nice touches to improve the software such as distance reading (in inches) showing up from the parking sensors as you approach an obstacle. There is more stitching on the dashboard and centre stack too. They have also implemented a Spotify type service for the car, you can use voice control to call up any song in the world that you feel like hearing and it gets played via the 3G link - very very cool.

I drove one yesterday too, pretty impressive car.
Performance at low speeds is very good indeed, tails off quite a bit at higher speeds though. Lots of room inside, loads of luggage space and generally looked pretty well put together. It will make an excellent car for a medium distance commute and doing the school run with the two extra seats that fold out at the back.
Main problem for me is the range, I regularly do a 500 mile round trip over 2 days, so until the network of supper chargers covers my route I'm not sure if it would be viable.

Given the range of 260 real world miles surely you could have a free charger installed at the overnight leg of your 500 miles 2 day journey and easily achieve it using Telsa miles?

As Adam stated, run a 7kw / 32amp cable out to the car/garage (assuming not on the street). I wired up my own for less than fifty quid in parts and maybe 2 hrs work, or arrange for one to be fitted. It should recharge the MS over night even if completely empty. Alternatively, buy the forthcoming Tesla Chademo adapter which opens up the use of all the 50kwh chargers at all 100+ Welcome Break Motorway service stations and all IKEA's. By using various apps for the growing charging infrastructure you can also find a few thousand 7kw locations at hotels / restaurants / B&Bs as a backup etc.Performance at low speeds is very good indeed, tails off quite a bit at higher speeds though. I could probably charge up during the day on both the day I arrive and the day I return, charging over night would be much more difficult. In theory it would be 'just' possible, but it's cutting everything very fine.
Charging en route with a super charger would not be ideal either, I set off to arrive by 9:00am and then leave to come back home after 5:00pm, usually I don't stop, so having to stop for a 45 minute top up each way would mean a 3:45am start rather then 4:30am and getting home at 10:15pm instead of 9:30pm. Getting home later I could handle, an extra 45 minutes in the morning would be tough and that's not taking into account the extra 10 min or so that a stop takes on top of the actual charging time.
If the range was 350 miles or more then I would be much happier about it. I'm sure that will come, it's just rather border line right now.

Does the place you park at have 3 phase available? If so 11kw and 22kw chargers are available which will do the job, but the car will ideally need the twin onboard charger option. There is lots of information re Superchargers on the TeslaMotors forum but people have sent pictures of groundworks happening at South Mimms and a services on the M42 (whose name escapes me). There will be 8 Superchargers accross the UK by the end of the year which should provide for great cross country adventures without charging constraints.
