When is your Tesla Model S due to arrive
Discussion
My 85 arrived yesterday. So far I'm very happy and it feels smaller on the road than I expected.
I see there are now some new colours and the 60 has been replaced with a 70D (4WD!) with a good standard specification and a £55k price. May work better as a lease car with fewer "required" options.

The 70D has got my attention with the lower price and 4wd included - but I do wish Tesla would make their mind up what to charge - they seem to keep changing prices and available extras every month or two - e.g., the sunroof is now £1,250 (was £2,000), metallic £850 (was £600), there is now no dual charger option (couldn't work out from the website if it is automatically included or not)
My big problem is imagining how one can fit into my world of long trips - I once a month have a day in Cheltenham (round trip 320 miles from Preston, no overnight stay) and occasionally go to Winchester (about 250 miles - stay overnight for that). It'd be fine with 80 mile round trip to Manchester, but I cannot help feeling that a nearly new BMW 530d/535d wouldn't be pretty much as nice at two thirds the price - and enough range to manage any journey I could throw at it. I think the day trip to Cheltenham would be the worst (and I could go by train instead) but any form of charging on the route is either not fast or requires a detour (superchargers in Warrington and Birmingham are not right next to M6)
I do have a company I could put the Tesla through which suggest I should find a way to make it work - I did have a conversation with an owner who does a lot of travel and he thinks it's ace - but he usually stays overnight
My biggest (and insurmountable) problem is that I would need another reasonably large car to tow - so couldn't get something small for my wife to complement the Tesla. though that shouldn't stop me - it's the going to Cheltenham and back in a day that is the real hurdle

Did you really just compare a Tesla to a 530d My big problem is imagining how one can fit into my world of long trips - I once a month have a day in Cheltenham (round trip 320 miles from Preston, no overnight stay) and occasionally go to Winchester (about 250 miles - stay overnight for that). The 70D is really tempting, I've only had my Leaf for a week, and I'm already planning which Tesla to order in 18 months time when the PCP deal on the Leaf expires.
Solution for really long trips is easy....Get your wife an cheap ICE (but large) car

Ha - the list of cars up for consideration includes some considerably more silly comparisons than that!
I know I can sort by a decent size ICE for my wife (she has an XC90 at the moment) but I would find it really annoying to spend £60k on a Tesla and then find I couldn't use it for the longest trips (and we are talking a day a month) - part of the attraction of the Tesla is noise level on a long trip (I only test drove one on the motorway). A Tesla is also attractive cos we have a (one-third share in) a wind turbine so I would get some juice completely free when charging at home (weather-dependent of course)

People make long trips in the tesla
On face value it doesn't look too attractive if you do long journeys.
Even now with limited suoerchargers there aren't many routes north of Sheffield that you will struggle to travel a long distance on.
I know it takes 20mins to put 150 miles back in but they are well spaced and you will need a break after 2 hours.

Ooh - just spotted there are two near Winchester! There is a bit of a gap for me travelling down the M6 and M5 or M6 and then M40 though - the Birmingham one is I think in the middle of Birmingham which is a bit rubbish if you want to go past not through Brum, though I can see it's just off the A38 about a mile from the M6, but a 10-mile ish detour if going down M5
